Camp Orkila - Where Kids Thrive!

There's no place like overnight camp to discover who you are and the gifts you have to share.

Did you know Camp Orkila was created in 1906 and in the 1920s kids used to ride steamer ships through the Sound to Orcas Island to attend?

In 1906 the camp had 30 boys that attended. They now have over 16,000 guests a year that attend camp.

Camp Orkila Medication Information – From the School Nurse

As we prepare for camp, please review the following important information

regarding student medications.

Even if your student is not currently taking medication, this may change before camp begins, so we ask that all families review these guidelines carefully.

Medications Already at School

If your student already has medication at school (such as an inhaler or EpiPen), you do not need to complete additional authorization forms. These medications will be sent to camp with your student’s teacher.

Daily or As-Needed Medications

If your student takes any daily or as-needed medications (including allergy, seizure, thyroid medications, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, melatonin, etc.), the following is required:

  • A Medication Authorization Form signed by both the parent/guardian and a healthcare provider (linked below)

  • Medication must be in the original labeled container (no baggies or pill organizers permitted)

  • Please send only enough medication for the 3-day trip and keep the rest at home

New or Situational Medications

If your student begins a medication shortly before camp, or uses medication for situational needs (such as seasonal or outdoor allergies), a completed authorization form is still required—even for over-the-counter medications.

*Important Reminder*

We cannot administer any medication at camp without completed authorization forms.

DEADLINE: All required forms and medications must be submitted to the school by an adult during, or prior to, your Family Connection meeting taking place August 25–27 to allow adequate time for review and preparation before camp.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at sbear@conway.k12.wa.us

Thank you for your cooperation in helping keep all students safe and healthy at camp.

Sincerely,
Sarah Bear
