The Cannon Connection
2024-2025 Newsletter for Cannon Elementary Families
May 4-10, 2025
Good morning Cannon families,
Hello May! Can you believe we only have 13 1/2 days of school left? Let's make each one count!
Last week, we finalized our State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness - Three ⭐⭐⭐ STAAR Tests UP; Three ⭐⭐⭐ STAAR Tests DOWN! Thank you for helping us administer and facilitate a smooth testing season!
With hearts full of melody and memories, our elementary choir proudly presented their end-of-year choir send off for all of our students and their parents! It was a heartwarming performance featuring all our talented young singers. This special concert was a final choir performance by our fifth graders as they prepare to embark on their middle school adventures. We celebrate their musical journey and wish them well as they take their next steps! A huge round of applause for our Cannon Choir and our music director - Ms. Jenny Rios!
National Teacher Appreciation Week is celebrated this week from Monday, May 5th to Friday, May 9th, with National Teacher Day on Tuesday, May 6th. Please shower our amazing teachers with love and appreciation during Teacher Appreciation Week, May 5th - 9th! 🎉 Our incredible Cannon educators dedicate their hearts and minds to nurturing and inspiring our Cubs every single day.
Let's team up to make this week extra special for them! Here are a few simple ways your family can participate:
- 📝 A heartfelt note or drawing from your child: A personal "thank you" goes a long way!
- 🍎 A small token of appreciation: A flower, a treat, or a classroom supply can brighten their day.
- 🗣️ Encourage your child to share a positive moment: Ask them to tell their teacher what they love about their class.
Congratulations to this CHEERtastic Cub! This Cub participated in a National Cheer Competition in Florida and is advancing to FINALS! Day 1, was the preliminary round, and only 8 teams from each category advanced. Day 2, her team competed against a combined division of 20 teams. They had the highest performance of the whole year at 98.69! Her team took home 5th place at Summit against some amazing teams from all over the country! They had 2 HIT zero routines with no deductions - It was a perfect week for this CUB! We are CANNON PROUD!

Ready, Set, Register! Registration for the 2025-2026 School Year is Now Open
Start your engines, GCISD families! Registration for new and returning students, pre-K through 12th grade, is officially open and we want to have a great opening lap.
Why Race to Register Now?
Helps Team GCISD with Planning - Campuses are staffed based on registration numbers. Knowing numbers before the summer minimizes last-minute hiring or the relocation of staff once the school year begins.
It’s a Speedy Lap Through Skyward - Most cells in Skyward for returning students are pre-populated so parents can zoom through the registration process.
Cruise into Summer Knowing Your Student Is Registered - Once you’ve crossed the registration finish line, you can shift into end-of-school year mode, knowing your student is ready for the next school year.
What are the links to register?
Returning students register through Skyward. Families enrolling in pre-K must first complete an online application available here.
New families should first request a Skyward account. Families who only need to register a sibling and already have a Skyward account can do so from their existing account. When registering, please be sure to select the 2025-2026 school year for enrollment.
