Building on Foundations: Are your kids growing toward independence?
We've noticed many students are having trouble breaking down big tasks into smaller steps and staying motivated to complete them. This can impact their learning and motivation to see tasks through to the end.
To help, we'll be sharing tips and activities to develop their executive function skills (like planning and problem-solving).
Check out the Principal's video message for a quick activity you can try at home. You can also find more information in this resource:

Let's work together to help our kids become more independent learners!
We have been BUSY, kickin' into gear at WMS! We have a STEM night coming up Jan 30 (flyer below), 25-26 course registration approaching, and after school activities are rollin'!
All School Assembly: Every CHOICE you make leads you down a path… we CHOOSE a path of positivity and possibilities at WMS. Friday, Jeff Mozingo ROCKED out our gym capturing our kids attention to the power of choices and pitfalls that could take them off their path. It was a timely and critical message filled with real life stories the kids locked in on. Ask them about our assembly and checkout our events on our Social Media Pages for pics and videos:

Principal, Wildwood Middle School
Congrats to our Students of the Month!
IMPORTANT District Message:
Parents, are you planning to go on field trips or volunteer* for school events?
If so, to ensure the safety of all our students, volunteers are required to undergo a fingerprint-based background check through the Missouri Highway Patrol and the FBI.
The cost for the background check is approximately $45 and is the responsibility of the volunteer. This background check only needs to be done once while you are a volunteer in Rockwood schools and does not need to be repeated annually.
Here is the link to the MACHS fingerprint registration portal. Please use the registration code of 1838 when you register.
Please visit the Rockwood District website for additional information: rsdmo.org/get-involved/volunteers
*A volunteer refers to anyone who is chaperoning on a field trip or who may be alone with a student or students at school without the supervision of a staff member. Please visit the Rockwood District website for additional information: rsdmo.org/get-involved/volunteers.
Visitors are those who are at school to eat lunch with their child, attend a meeting, class party, school assembly or event and do NOT need to complete the fingerprinting process.

Rockwood School District Community Read – “The Anxious Generation” by Jonathan Haidt
The Rockwood School District and the Rockwood Library and Media program invite our parents and guardians, community members and high school students to participate in a “Community Read” this winter of “The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness,” by Jonathan Haidt.
Throughout January and February, school librarians will host book discussions for their school or quadrant communities (check with your school librarian for specific information), culminating in a districtwide discussion on Thursday, Feb. 13, from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Marquette High theater, led by guest speaker Julie Smith, Webster University communications instructor.
Rockwood educators care deeply about the mental health of all our students, and we feel this book will allow for meaningful conversations among parents, staff, community members and high school students. Our goal for these discussions is not to reach consensus or drive building or district policies, but to reflect, learn from each other and grow.

ParentSquare: Rockwood uses ParentSquare for district and school communication, primarily with email, text and app notifications. ParentSquare automatically generates an account for each parent, using their preferred email address and phone number. We encourage parents to access their accounts so they can download the mobile app and update their preferences on when and how they are notified. By default, if parents don’t access their account, they will receive a daily digest of messages from the school and district via email each evening. Click here for more information about ParentSquare.
