The Weekly Update #4
August 21st, 2026
Welcome to the 'Livin' the Dream' Newsletter!
From the desk of Principal Loyd:
Bobcats,
As we approach our first progress report of the 9 weeks, please note that we will begin grade repair next week for any students that are failing 3 or more courses. We currently have 843 course failures on campus (the number is usually closer to 400), which is the individual number of classes that students are not passing. With this being said I would like to reference our teacher tutoring spreadsheet: BMS Teacher Tutorial Schedule
This spreadsheet houses each of our teacher's tutorial days and times. Please note that if your student arrives before school (before 7:40 AM) they will need to enter through the front of the building and if they stay after school, you can request that their teacher put them on our tutorial sweep list so they receive a reminder from an administrator to stay for tutorials. We appreciate all of our Barton Parents that partner with us to ensure the academic success of their students on our campus.
We are seeing a marked increase in the amount of trash that is being left around campus in common areas. Please encourage your student to be part of our campus community and clean up after themselves. Our custodial staff works tirelessly to keep our campus running and maintain cleanliness. Excess trash that is left during mealtimes in the morning and at lunches places extra stress on our custodial staff and adds more to their already full schedule of caring for our campus. We appreciate your support in this matter and assisting us to keep our campus clean so that we can provide more incentives for our students during these mealtimes like our sports equipment cart and extra fun times during Bobcat Hour.
We have a very busy week coming up this week with our annual Homecoming football game, Red Ribbon week and finally Homecoming Dance this coming Thursday from 6-9PM. Homecoming tickets are sold in the front office or online on our RevTrak site for $5, we look forward to seeing all of our Bobcats here for a good time that evening. Parents, a pro-tip to make your pickup easier at 9 PM is to arrive early and back into a parking spot in our parking lot. This way, you can load your student and head out in a more efficient manner. The typical 'car loop' style pickup is not necessary, but optional for our extracurricular events, such as dances. We hope this helps!
Thank you for partnering with us at BMS.

We will also start our Reading Plus expectations next week since every Bobcat should have completed their BOY screener in Bobcat Hour this week. I am attempting to get Reading Plus to reset at midnight on Fridays like years past but have not been successful yet. Hopefully I am so Bobcats can get it done ahead of time and enjoy a Tuesday, Thursday and Friday Fun day next week.

ID Payments
ID Policy:
Students must have an ID each and every day at school. If they forget their ID at home then they have until the end of 1st period to get their ID delivered but must still go to 201 to get an awaiting ID tag. Any student without an ID after 1st period will be sent to room 201 to receive a reprinted ID. Students will not be allowed to visit the locker room during the day to retrieve their ID so we recommend storing them in their school day backpack.
Reprint ID's are $5 each and can be paid for with cash in room 201 or online on RevTrak using the QR code above. For fast payment reconciliation email your receipt to melissa.mckelvy@hayscisd.net so your student never has to miss a PAWS for Fun!

Marty McFly Vest is on the move...
It's no surprise that we have the BEST Bobcat staff! This year we have started a new tradition with our staff in partnership with our Back to the Future - Bobcats are Back on T.R.A.C.K. theme where teachers recognize each other on campus by passing along our Marty McFly vest for doing something so 'fly' for their campus.
Congrats to all of these amazing staff for the honor of being recognized, you make Barton a better place to work and learn!
