January 11-17, 2026

Good morning Cannon families,

We've established a strong start to the second semester! It has been a wonderful first three days back on campus! We spent the week reestablishing our Cub PRIDE expectations—focusing on Partnership, Respect, Integrity, Dependability, and Empathy. Teachers also sat down with students for one-on-one conferences to review first-semester growth. During these chats, students identified their "Glows" (strengths) and their "Grows" (areas for improvement) to set a clear path for the months ahead.

We capped off the week with our high-energy Middle of the Year GLOW & GROW Pep Rally! It was a thrill to celebrate our students' hard work alongside special guests Snargg and Plory from i-Ready. We are so proud of the progress our Cubs are making!

A Friendly Reminder: Learning First! With our focus on "Glows and Grows" this semester, we want to ensure every student can stay focused on their learning goals. To help minimize distractions in the classroom, please ensure that all toys, trading cards, and electronic gadgets remain at home. These items can often lead to lost instructional time or hurt feelings if they are misplaced or broken. Thank you for helping us keep our classrooms a place where "Cub PRIDE" and learning come first!

STEM teaching and learning is an instructional approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Through STEM education practices, students develop key skills including: problem solving, creativity, and critical analysis. We are PROUD to honor our scholars for exhibiting STEM thinking, and we can't wait to celebrate our next group of inductees Friday, January 16th. Our STEM Habit of Mind for January is Growth Mindset Learner.

If your scholar is selected, your teacher will reach out to you with ceremony details about the specific date and time for each grade's ceremony. We hope you will join us in celebrating our young innovators!

Remember, the start time for GCISD elementary schools is 7:35. Doors open at 7:20, with breakfast available until 7:35. Cubs are tardy after 7:35. Please make every effort to arrive on time each day - Strong Attendance Matters! Every Instructional minute counts!

Please remember to send your Cub in comfortable clothes and sneakers for their busy school days! Water bottles and nut-free snacks are also a must to make each day successful!

A quick reminder to all families: Please pay your outstanding Technology & Lunch Fees as soon as possible; Outstanding fee emails are sent to parents weekly. Paying your fee in a timely manner ensures that your student's device access and digital learning experience remain uninterrupted. Please complete the payment via Skyward at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your cooperation!

As a reminder, the district is closed Monday, January 19 to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Thank you for being such an integral part of our school community. Let’s make 2026 a year of kindness, curiosity, and growth!

Proud to be your principal,

Dr. Tina Garrett

TEA Federal Report Cards (FRC)

We are sharing this information about the district and Cannon with you as part of its obligations under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA). Federal Report Cards for the state, the district, and each of the district’s campuses are now available on the district’s website at this link and they are also available on the Texas Education Agency’s website. If you have difficulty accessing the information from the website, hard copies of the reports are available at the district or campus office. If you have questions about the information, please contact Dr. Tina Garrett

State School Report Cards (SRC) **Something Different from the FRC**

While the SRC and FRC contain some overlapping information, as well as, information not included in the other's format, the state assessment results and accountability ratings contained in them are examples of data in the report cards that are not new outcomes.

Attached you will find a copy of the State of Texas 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 School Report Cards for Cannon. This report is required by the Texas Legislature and prepared by the Texas Education Agency. It is to be sent to the parent or guardian of every child enrolled in a Texas public school. The report provides information concerning student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®), College, Career, and Military Readiness, as well as information on student enrollment, class size averages, and financial expenditures.

Due to judicial proceedings, the release of the 2024 School Report Card was significantly delayed.

The information contained in the School Report Card is required by state law and much of the technical language used is defined and described in the enclosed “2024 School Report Card Definitions” and “2025 School Report Card Definitions.”The report for our school may or may not have all the information described because the information presented depends on whether the school is an elementary, middle, or high school.

State law requires that the School Report Card display information about the state, the district, and the school. Where possible, the information must be reported by race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status of the students and must include at least two years of results.

The School Report Cards can be found online at TEA School Report Card.

A more complete report about Cannon, the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR), is available by contacting my office or can be accessed online at Texas Academic Report Cards.

Please contact me if you have any questions concerning this report card. Thank you for your continued support of Cannon!

2026-2027 Instructional Calendar Approved

The GCISD Instructional Calendar for the 2026-2027 school year was approved by the Board of Trustees at its December 15 Regular Meeting.
