Headteacher's comment
What an eventful last week it has been in school before we break up for the Easter holidays. We welcomed many parents into school to partake in fun activities, ranging from Easter Craft to a mini quiz with their children in class.
A selection of our children also attended an inclusion event at Lepton and a multiskills event at Batley Sports Centre; both were a huge success.
Our week has been rounded off with a Dare to be Different Day. It has been lovely seeing all our children expressing their creativity in different ways.
Happy Easter and we will see you after the holidays on Monday 13th April 2026.

Collective Worship
Strong and Mighty Max
This week in Collective Worship, we shared the story Strong and Mighty Max by Kristina Gray. The book tells the story of Max, a boy born with achondroplasia, and celebrates how being different is something to be valued, not hidden. Through its powerful message and beautiful illustrations, the children were encouraged to recognise that every person is unique and that our differences are part of what makes us special.
In class worship, we built on this learning by exploring the experiences of Will Perry, who has spoken openly about the discrimination and unkindness he has faced because of his disability. The children reflected on the impact that words and actions can have on others, and how showing courage—like Will—by speaking out can help bring about understanding and change.
This marks the final week in our sequence of worships focused on disability. Throughout this journey, we have sought to help children understand that disability does not mean inability. As a school, we are deeply committed to nurturing pupils who grow into kind, caring and compassionate individuals, guided by our Christian values. We want our children to recognise that the world has a place for everyone, and that each of us has a responsibility to treat others with dignity, respect and love.
Easter Service
This week, our Senior Pupil Representatives led a deeply moving Easter service at church, supported by Reverend Debbie Nash. The service guided us through the events of Holy Week, from the joy of Palm Sunday to the sadness of Good Friday, before arriving at the hope of Easter Sunday.
At the start of the service, each person was given a stone to hold, helping us reflect on the question asked on the first Easter morning: “Who will roll the stone away?” Through readings, drama, music and moments of stillness, the children explored the changing emotions of the Easter story — from celebration and misunderstanding, to grief, fear and loss.
The turning point came as the children shared the message of the empty tomb: the stone had been rolled away, and Jesus was alive. This powerful moment reminded us that, even when things feel difficult or uncertain, hope is never lost. The children reflected on how the ‘stones’ in our own lives — our worries, fears or challenges — do not have the final word.
The service ended with a message of hope and reassurance: we may all carry burdens at times, but we do not carry them alone. Through Easter, we are reminded that love is stronger than anything we face, and that hope is always alive.
Chair of Governors update
This half term the Governors held their meeting during the school day. We spent the first part of the morning visiting classrooms and observed the collective worship for the day. We were very impressed by the level of concentration and focus from all the children during their lessons, especially as it was World Book Day and most were dressed up in amazing costumes. The children were not distracted by their costumes, and it was great to see all the staff also involved by wearing fancy dress.
We followed this with our formal meeting, during which we discussed what we had seen in lessons and then covered our usual termly business.
It is important for governors to visit school during the day, otherwise all we see is an empty building! The quality of teaching and learning was wonderful to see, and we are grateful to the staff for allowing us to visit their lessons.
The governors hope you have a wonderful Easter holiday and hopefully enjoy some good weather.
