Autism Acceptance Month
April 2025

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. The theme for Autism Acceptance Month 2025 is Celebrate Differences. This theme encourages us to see that each person is unique and their differences are a normal part of life.
Did You Know?
Autism Spectrum Disorder now affects 1 in 36 children (CDC, 2023). Boys are nearly 4 times more likely than girls to be diagnosed with ASD.
The term stems from the Greek word ‘autos’ meaning “self”, autism literally means “alone”.
Individuals with autism spectrum disorder have communication deficits. It is important to distinguish between spoken language and social communication deficits.
ASD is a spectrum disorder, which means that every child with ASD has different skills, challenges, and needs.
Individuals with autism spectrum disorder may be very creative and find a passion and talent for music, theater, art, dance and singing quite easily.
