March 10, 2023
Dear KRS Families,
The STEAM Fair was a big success! I learned so much from our KRS student STEAM researchers. All KRS students were able to tour the projects during the school day and the KRS families attended the fair in the evening. A big thank you to STEAM teacher Mrs. Conner for organizing the event and inspiring our KRS STEAM researchers. Congratulations to all the KRS participating students!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Kathy Koop

STEAM Update By Mrs. Conner - Women in History
Students in Grades K-2: Hidden Figures Coding Challenge is a fun and unique way to engage students during Women's History Month. Students will see that anyone can be a scientist regardless of race or gender.
We will begin by listening to Hidden Figures: The True Story of Four Black Women. Students work together to create different codes to direct the astronauts to the moon. Every activity and solution is unique as students create their own board and code by moving the start point, obstacles, and end points on their coding sheets.
After they have completed their activity, there is time for reflection on what worked and what didn't.
Students in Grades 3-5: Grace Hopper is one of the famous women in STEAM. Grace Hopper: Queen of Computer Code made the National Teachers Science Association's list of top STEAM books for 2017.
Students will complete a Technology Project including doing research, making a story map, completing a character traits sheet, and reading a biography of Grace Hopper with accompanying questions.

The KRS Art Show will also be held that evening beginning at 6 PM.

Little Women the Musical - Madison High School
Little Women the Musical | @MHS
Mar 9 | 6:30pm, Mar 10 |7pm, Mar 11 | 7pm, Mar 12 | Noon
Based on Louisa May Alcott's life, Little Women follows the adventures of sisters Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy March. Jo is trying to sell her stories for publication, but the publishers are not interested. Her friend, Professor Bhaer, tells her that she has to do better and write more from herself. Begrudgingly taking this advice, Jo weaves the story of herself and her sisters and their experience growing up in Civil War America. Appropriate for all ages.
MMA has a one-stop shopping link on our website for both shows -- events.madisonmusicarts.org -- where patrons may find the links for both tickets and Kiss the Cast.
