Celebrating Mrs. McCourtney!

Thank you to our awesome parents and PTA as we celebrated Mrs. McCourtney's birthday and upcoming time away from the classroom. Parents showered Mrs. McCourtney with love as well as a delicious taco bar along with some tasty treats. There were fun crafts and a wonderful opportunity to connect with each other and celebrate an awesome teacher. Parents also got to meet Mrs. Weldon who will be taking the reins from Mrs. McCourtney the rest of the year.

CAASPP/State Testing Update

State Testing will begin mid-April. As discussed last week, the State has changed the calculations for each school. The move to a dashboard across multiple domains rather than the single score previously in place has been positive but came with an additional piece. In a move motivated by increasing the participation rate and getting more schools to reach the minimum 95% participation rate, there are heavy penalties for falling short. We receive the lowest possible score for all students short of the 95% rate. For a school as small as we are, this can be devastating. If you are thinking of opting out, please come in and let's talk.

Great Summer Intern Opportunity

For the past 8 years, The Tustin Public Schools Foundation has run a Summer Academy at Orchard Hills for the TUSD students and neighboring communities. It's an incredible opportunity for students to participate in high interest classes taught by TUSD's finest teachers. It's an incredible program and our own Mr. David will be joining us this summer. Additionally, this is Mr. Fineberg's baby as he started the acdemy and continues to run it. For more information, check out the website at www.tpsf.net/summeracademy. Registration opens March 1st, but applications for interns (High School and College-age students) are available now!

Reminder: Countdown to Measure N Vote

Measure N, is on the March 3 ballot. Measure N is a general obligation bond to improve school buildings inside the School Facilities Improvement District (SFID 20-1) that includes all of the oldest schools in the District. The SFID excludes all neighborhoods that are paying Mello-Roos fees that built the schools in Tustin Ranch, West Irvine, Northpark, Orchard Hills and Tustin Legacy.

Information about Bond Measure N can be found on the TUSD Website’s home page at www.tustin.k12.ca.us.
