A Note from Mrs. Pitts
Dear RES Families,
FIRST NOTE:
PLEASE FILL OUT THE VISION SCREENING PERMISSION AND SIGN UP FOR ARTSONIA IN THIS NEWSLETTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, if you are interested!
Halloween is coming and here is some important information!
1. Parade and Assembly: We would love to invite families to an 8:30 AM parade and assembly. Students in grades K-4 will be parading around the school. These are the two events that all family members will be invited to attend during the day. PLEASE know we will not be letting parents in the building until 8:30. We are going to have our parade through the hallways and our students are going to START in the gym.
2. Parties: When planning, keep in mind the following recommendations from the Wellness Committee for all parties:
• one homemade treat avoiding artificial dyes and/or high fructose corn syrup
• one or two healthy snacks (a great way to get creative with colorful fruits and vegetables)
• one moving activity (relay race, tossing, balancing, wrapping friends in toilet paper)
• one artistic craft as an option
• keep in mind RES efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle
*All food preparation must be done in school to avoid cross contamination at home.
Here is the FINAL presentation from our room parent training!
We ask that room parents/guardians email the teacher and Lori Flint all food choices a week ahead so there are no surprises and Mrs. Flint can process whether these are safe for all students in a particular class. Please email her if you have questions! lfint@sau50.org
4. Costumes: Students may wear costumes, but weapons (even toys) are not allowed. Gruesome costumes depicting blood are also not allowed. Masks are ok but should be appropriate and not scary for our youngest children who are in the parade and at the assembly.
Warmly,
Michelle Pitts
Community Book Club with RJH!
The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt and Greg Lukianoff explores the cultural shifts that have contributed to a rise in anxiety and mental health issues among today’s youth. The authors argue that changes in parenting styles, social media dynamics, and societal attitudes towards safety and emotional well-being have created a generation that is more anxious and less resilient. They offer insights into the implications of these changes and suggest ways to foster greater emotional strength and resilience in young people.
Complete the book over the holidays and join us for two virtual sessions of meaningful conversations and connection as we navigate these crucial issues together!

SAEBRS PERMISSION FORM: IMPORTANT for Grades 3 and 4
Hello Parents and Guardians of our 3rd and 4th Graders!
We wanted to inform you about an upcoming Behavioral Health and Wellness screener that students across SAU50 are participating in. This screener is called SAEBRS and it is the social and emotional component to the STAR assessment suite that we use to assess our students' Math and Literacy skills. At this time, the Rye School District will be administering the "MySAEBRS" only, which is intended for students in 3rd - 8th grades. This is a self-assessment that each student will complete on the computer during their Health classes the week of 11/4/24. The material coming home will provide you with some context for what this will look like. If you have questions or concerns about this, please contact Lori Arsenault, the RES School Counselor.
This does require parent permission, so please fill out this Google Form to choose to allow or opt your child out of the MySAEBRS screener AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

IMPORTANT!: From Mrs. Barrett
Dear Parents,
I hope you are all enjoying the fall so far! I’m Julia Barrett, the art teacher at RES, and I’m excited to share that I am setting up Artsonia accounts for your children's work! Artsonia is a fantastic digital platform where your child’s artwork and artist statements will be displayed, creating a lasting portfolio that grows with them throughout the years. What makes Artsonia even more special is that you can purchase items featuring your child’s artwork—such as notebooks with their work on it, T-shirts, coffee mugs, and more—should you want that. Most importantly it is a great way to see what the students have been working on in art as they build their portfolio.
Moving forward at RES, I plan to use Artsonia year after year, and once you’ve set up your account, it will carry through your child’s time here and even into RJH. It’s an amazing way to watch their artistic journey unfold over time and see what they have been up to in art class.
In order to create your account you can connect by pulling up the QR code in your camera or your phone to activate your account. You can also use the link attached below to create your account as well. Once you have created your account I will be able to approve and you will be able to check out your children's work.
It’s important to note that your child won’t be able to participate in this valuable educational tool without your approval.
Thank you so much for your time and support! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Warm regards,
Julia Barrett
