Students are encouraged to start practicing the different events so they can try them and see which are their favorite and are ready to participate.
Reading Skills
We will focus on the following skills this week:
- Introduce commas and quotation marks
- Practice reading cvce words, phrases and sentences
- Continued practice with writing process with a fictional narrative
Spelling Words
I am going to start differentiating spelling words for students based on what they need. Some students need more review on the previous spelling patterns, others are doing fine with the on-level and some need more of a challenge. Your child will write their spelling words for the week in their agenda. This week it'll be two groups (on-level and above level) and next week, we'll start with three different groups. You will also see the different levels of spelling words in our weekly newsletter. If you feel that your child needs more practice, is up for a challenge or needs to stay with the on level group, please let me know. This can change by the week, depending on what your family has each week.
We will have 10 spelling words this week, due to the short week.
Star of the Week
We will have our next Star of the Week when we get back to a full week of school.
Students will also have the opportunity to make their own toga at home using any resources that you may have. It can be made from a plastic table cloth, a blanket, piece of fabric, anything. Students get to wear them to school when we have our Greek Olympics, which is scheduled for Thursday, October 22nd. Below are some links to videos that you watch for ideas on how to make your own toga.

Clever
At the beginning of the school year, I sent home your child's QR code. You can use this link (Please bookmark the Clever sight for ease of access.) and click on the Clever Badge Login. Scan your child's QR code with your device's camera. Your child is able to use the different apps on Clever to get extra practice.
We also have Tumble Books and Epic where students can listen or read books.
Epic - the class code for Epic is tcn5041
Tumble Books - the username is lasd & the password is books.
Typing Club and Nitro Type are also encouraged to be used as students will need to type their responses for some of their testing in 3rd grade.
Accelerated Reader (AR)
If your child forgets their AR Book, please have them pick a book from their home to read. You can even check if their own books that you have at home or your child checked out from the library are AR Books by going to arbookfind.com. Then, type in the name of the book and see if it pops up as an AR book. If they are, your child is welcome to also read those books and bring them in to test on them, as well. Or you can write the name of the book in your child's agenda and I can look up the code for your child. Please be sure to keep AR books away from younger siblings and pets. Lost or damaged books will need to be replaced or paid for.
