We'll send a second Summer Update in early August with additional back-to-school information. Until then, enjoy the rest of your summer, make the most of the weeks ahead, and we'll see you in August!

Principal Buterbaugh

Celebrating SLMS in Washington, D.C. Celebrating SLMS in Washington, D.C.

On June 26, Springton Lake Middle School was recognized in Washington, D.C., as a Pennsylvania School to Watch or Excellence. This prestigious distinction is shared by only 37 middle schools across Pennsylvania. Pictured are Mr. Buterbaugh, Dr. McGuire, Ms. Megow, and Pennsylvania's National Schools to Watch Director of the Year, Bruce Vosburgh.

We are proud to display our Schools to Watch recognition in the Main Office and Lobby as a reminder of our continued commitment to excellence and the outstanding work of our students, staff, and school community.

Reading, Math, & Community Service

As we prepare for summer, we would like to share summer learning expectations and opportunities with all families. These plans were developed based on feedback from students and in collaboration with our faculty.

Summer Reading (Required for All Students)

Grade 6 Summer Reading

Grade 7 Summer Reading

Grade 8 Summer Reading

Once again this year, students entering grades 6-8 will participate in a common read as part of our One School, One Book initiative. This year's faculty-selected book is New Kid by Jerry Craft. To help introduce the book, several of our students got a head start by reading it and creating their own promotional video to share their reflections and recommendations.

2. Summer Math - Optional for all students. Students who complete the assignment may fill out the Google form listed below to earn Spartan Bucks for their efforts.

Grade 6 Summer Math

Grade 7 Summer Math

Grade 8 Summer Math

If you are an Algebra I student, please contact the main office at (610) 627-6500

.Summer Community Service - Optional for all students.

Learning can take many different forms. In an effort to encourage students to become involved in their community over the summer, this optional activity is being provided.

Students are encouraged to seek out opportunities to perform service within the community during the summer months. Any service done for others (outside of your own family/household) will be considered an applicable activity.

Students who complete community service may fill out this form. Students will be recognized with a certificate at the start of the school year and will be rewarded with some bonus Spartan Bucks. Verification of students completing community service will be on the honor system.

Spartan Summer Community Service Award - Bronze Level (at least 5 hours of service)

Spartan Summer Community Service Award - Silver Level (at least 10 hours of service)

Spartan Summer Community Service Award - Gold Level (at least 20 hours of service)

Transition Camp is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11th and Tuesday, August 18th. The sessions run from 9 AM to 12 PM. The sessions are FREE and attendance is VOLUNTARY. Students may attend ONE SESSION.

Transition Camp is for students only. Parents may attend the initial welcome and overview of the day that will take place in the Auditorium at 9 AM. Registration and check-in begins at 8:40 AM. Gym t-shirts, Chromebook cases, and other spirit wear will also be available for purchase at the event - cash or checks ONLY.
