The News
Friday marked they 25th anniversary of the tragic attacks on our country on September 11, 2001. It is so hard to believe that day was 25 years ago- before iPhones tracked our daily lives in crystal clear images and videos; before social media documented every minute of our lives. I can only imagine what we would have know and seen had we had today's technology on that horrible day.
On Friday, I read four short stories of heroism and bravery from that day to our students. One of those stories was featured in an ESPN documentary. I have posted the video below. It's called The Man in the Red Bandana. It is about 10 minutes long and worth your time and attention.
I've also posted some of my pictures from the September 11 Memorial and Museum in New York City. We take Seniors to New York City every year and on of the main things we do is this museum. If you are ever in New York City it is a MUST VISIT (especially if you were old enough to remember that day). ** Please excuse the tour guide in me! This is mostly for the students who get this newsletter too.
Our football team picked up their first win of the season Friday night, a region win at J.B. Pennington. The Bobcats beat the Tigers 41-28.
Our volleyball team had a good week picking up an area win over Winston County on Tuesday and wins over Cherokee and Red Bay on Saturday. Our junior varsity team also beat Cherokee on Saturday.
Have A Great Week!

The first three pictures are of One World Trade Center (Freedom Tower). It's official height is 1776 feet to coincide with the year of the Declaration of Independence. Where the flag and flowers are is the memorial of the North Tower that fell that day. There is another a few hundred feet away where the South Tower stood. Around both memorial pools are the names of each person who did in that tower on 9/11. This is a very solemn and quiet place in the middle of the downtown Manhattan, a few blocks from Wall Street. The pools have 30-foot waterfalls that cascade into a seemingly endless void.
This is from the base of One World Trade. It's design is almost all steel and glass making it reflect like a mirror with the surrounding skies. It's angular design from the base makes it seem like it never ends.
This is the North Tower memorial.
This is the view from the top of One World Trade in the direction the planes would have come that day.
This is a 1982 hyper-realistic sculpture of a young businessman called "Double Check." It was knock over that day when the towers fell. Because of its realistic look and it was covered in dust and soot like everything else that day, firefighters and rescue workers mistakenly thought it was a real person. The scratches and dents in the statue were preserved.
This is St. Paul's Chapel. This old country church is located across the street from where the towers stood. It's cemetery is home to some of the oldest grave sites in New York City dating back to the 1600s. It is also the church George Washington attended while his troops were camped in the city during the Revolutionary War and after he was sworn in as the first president of the United States when the capital was in the City. This church was unharmed on 9/11 and served a base for rescue operations.
Last one. This is from inside the museum. There are 2,983 watercolor blue squares representing each person who died in the 9/11 attack and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Each square represent what the painters remember the sky looking like that morning. The inscription at the center is from the poet Virgil- "No day shall erase you from the memory of time."

Homecoming Information
As we announced earlier in the year, because our Homecoming week fell on Fall Break Week, the Homecoming game will be on Thursday, October 8 at 7pm.
The parade will be on Wednesday afternoon (October 7) at 2pm with a community pep rally immediately following. There will be a student bonfire fellowship at 8pm after church hours on Wednesday night. We know this is an inconvenience for some adults but it is in the best interest of our student and staff since they will be out of school on Thursday and Friday.
