Happy Summer!
We have made it to summer break! This year has been like no other and I would like to commend each of you for your support and dedication to the success of your students. It is hard to believe that the school year is already coming to a close. We have missed seeing your smiling faces in the building. The end of this year has truly been unprecedented! The COVID-19 Pandemic has caused us to develop a “new normal” for our daily activities. While it was not easy, we survived and came out stronger than before.
As we wrap up, I would like to take a few moments to personally extend a thank you to our incredible school staff who works very hard on a daily basis to guide our children and help them learn and grow. We would be hard pressed to find a more caring and dedicated group of teachers. I would also like to thank our PTO board and our parent volunteers for the hours of dedication to help enrich our school and build a sense of community for our students. To all of you, our parents, guardians, and grandparents, I would like to say thank you for trusting us with your children, and for your investment and support to provide a quality education for our children.
In closing, on behalf of the staff at White Knoll Elementary School, we wish everyone a very happy, healthy and safe summer break. We will look forward to hearing about all the fun and exciting learning experiences your families have enjoyed over the summer! At The Knoll, we continue to Lead, Learn and Love!
From our hearts to yours,
WKE Admin Team

A Message from Lexington Public Library
I hope that you and yours are healthy and staying safe. I am writing with information about how this year's Summer Reading Program is being made virtual in light of COVID-19. I am linking the summer reading page from the library's website, which has forthcoming information about paper tracking sheets. Online registration will be available, as in past years, but families can also use the paper tracking sheets and have a staff member input their information at the end of summer. The website also has information about how some of our school age shows are being made virtual, including performances by Tim Sonefelt, Chad Crews, and Porkchop Productions!
Grab-and-go bags will be available for families to pick up from all library branches when we reopen to the public. We are shooting for the first week of June. These bags include: a paper tracking sheet, stickers, a decorate your own bookmark craft, and a flier outlining virtual program offerings for this summer. Attached to this email is a PDF of the program flier, if you'd like to pass that along to your students right now! They can register and track reading anytime between June 1 and July 31. Please direct your students and staff to library's website or Facebook page for future updates.
Remember, this year's program doesn't have levels or age ranges. All children and teenagers (categorized as "youth") complete the program once they have tracked 720 minutes, or 12 hours. Points can be earned by reading as well as completing “quests” like reading out loud to someone or attending one of our virtual programs. These quests are listed on the paper tracking sheet. Participants can collect all of their prizes at one time from any library branch between August 1 and August 31.
Don’t hesitate to let me know any questions or concerns you might have during this time. I'm available via email for book suggestions as well, or if you are interested in finding out more about digital resources while physical library services remain limited. Please feel free to reach out to the library at 785-2630 to talk to a Youth Services staff member!
