What's happening at CJH?
🦃 From the Principal's Desk
Our Gobblers continue to Level Up in learning, character, and service! We are proud of our first Think Pink Crew for participating in Saturday’s Race for the Cure Walk and grateful to everyone who helped raise more than $600 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Join us in celebrating Pink Out Week with school-appropriate pink attire, Tuesday’s pep rally, and Thursday’s Pink Out volleyball event!
As the second six weeks comes to a close on October 29, please review grades and assignments with your student and encourage timely completion of homework and makeup work. Celebrate progress while reinforcing responsibility, integrity, kindness, and respect. Our goal is to help every Gobbler grow—as a learner and as a person.
Picture Day is Wednesday, October 21! Please also help your student arrive on time each day with a charged Chromebook and charger. Check the calendar below for this week’s activities and opportunities to support our students.
Thank you for partnering with us. Every choice, every action, and every day matter. Let’s keep leveling up together!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
During the month of October, students are allowed to wear Cuero ISD/school-spirit shirts that incorporate pink in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In addition, we will have a Pink Out week where students may wear any school appropriate pink attire.
October 19–23 — Pink Out Week
Wear pink all week to help raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Let’s show support, spread kindness, and stand together for those who have been affected by breast cancer.

🏠 Support Your Gobbler’s Learning at Home
Level up with IXL
We’re using IXL to support our curriculum this year, and your student can access it at home, too! IXL reinforces classroom learning through personalized practice, helping students strengthen their skills and find the right level of challenge.
Here are a few ways you can support your student at home:
- Check progress by clicking on “Analytics” in your student’s account.
- Celebrate accomplishments! Add your email under “Profile & settings” to receive milestone certificates.
- Encourage breaks when needed. Progress saves automatically, so students can return to a skill later.
Remember, IXL’s SmartScore measures understanding of a skill—it is not a percentage grade. A score of 80 or 90 shows strong understanding, while 100 represents mastery. Our goal is growth for every Gobbler, so celebrate with your student when they reach an 80! We encourage honors students and students working toward Masters Grade Level on STAAR to keep challenging themselves by working toward a SmartScore of 100.
Turn a little screen time into learning time! Your student can also practice skills using the IXL app. Read about the app here: https://www.ixl.com/apps

Level Up at Home: Small Steps, Big Growth!
Our CJH Level Up challenge is about getting 1% better every day—in learning, habits, and character. Families can help reinforce that message through small, intentional actions at home!
Level Up Your Learning
- Have a daily check-in. Ask, “What did you learn today?” or “What challenged you, and how did you handle it?”
- Set one small goal. Encourage your student to finish a missing assignment, practice a challenging skill, or prepare for an upcoming test.
- Celebrate progress. Recognize stronger effort, better organization, and perseverance—not just perfect grades.
Level Up Your Character
- Own your responsibilities. Encourage your student to complete chores, prepare for school, and follow through without repeated reminders.
- Choose integrity. Talk about being honest, doing their own work, and taking responsibility for mistakes—even when it is difficult.
- Make kindness a daily goal. Challenge your student to include someone, offer encouragement, or show respect during a disagreement.
- Reflect and reset. Ask, “What is one choice you’re proud of today? What could you do better tomorrow?”
Every day is a new opportunity to take one step forward. Together, we can help our Gobblers level up—one choice, one habit, and one day at a time!
💻 Chromebooks
This is a reminder that all students are expected to bring their charged Chromebook and charger to school every day.
Students may receive consequences for:
Arriving to class without their Chromebook
Excessive Chromebook checkouts (more than 4 per semester)
Failing to return a loaner Chromebook on the same day it is checked out
Please help us by ensuring your child brings both their Chromebook and charger to school daily.
Thank you for your support!
😷 Attendance Policy
Attendance matters every day. Regular, on-time attendance helps students stay connected to instruction, keep up with assignments, and earn course credit. Please review our Attendance, Absence & Tardy Expectations for documentation requirements, the 90% rule, and tardy consequences.
Students who arrive more than 10 minutes after the tardy bell are counted absent. Please help students arrive on time each day.
✍🏻 Student check-out and deliveries
Students may only be checked out by a Parent/Guardian or someone listed on their Parent Portal Account. Please be prepared to show a valid driver's license or ID Card.
Please note:
- Regular School Days: No student pick-up/check-out after 3:00 PM
- Early Release Days: No student pick-up/check-out after 12:00 PM
Students may bring a lunch box to school for lunch, but no outside food or drinks may be brought in for students. If a student forgets their lunch, it must be dropped off by 9:00 AM
Parents MAY NOT bring outside food or drinks for athletes between 1st and 2nd period unless it is in a lunch box.
Thank you for your understanding!
