Primary Proud!
We are so proud of our two social workers, Mrs. Zavala and Mrs. Hyatt, along with Mr. Assmann, our School Psychologist and our Board Certified Behavior Analyst, Mrs. Cusenza, for being nominated in the Mental Health Educator Category. They were recognized at the Educator of the Year ceremony for Lake County. We couldn't be more proud of them and the work they do each day to support our students! Congratulations!
Primary's Last Play Date!
We hope you have enjoyed attending our Primary Play Dates this year! Mrs. Carruthers and Mrs. Garner have done a fabulous job of planning these events to bring our students together with great opportunities to connect and practice play skills. Plus, it's great to see parents coming together, too!
Don't miss our last one!
Staff Appreciation Week=Success! Primary staff is the BEST!
Staff and Teacher Appreciation Week!
The Primary Staff would like to thank our families for all of the thoughtful cards, pictures, flowers, treats and more that were sent in this week to make their day. You put a smile on our faces and we all felt the love!
Thank you to our PTA for providing our staff with lunch this week-such a nice treat!
We have a great home-school connection and we hope you know how much your support and kind words mean to us. Thank you!
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, when we celebrate and pay tribute to the rich history, culture and contributions of generations of Asian and Pacific Islanders in the United States. We think using stories can spark great conversation with our students. Stories can help children learn about others and themselves, we love stories told in authors and illustrators “own voices.” These stories can offer kids both “mirrors” (to feel seen) and “windows” (to open up to and understand others).
Below are two stories that celebrate the storytelling traditions of Asian American and Pacific Islanders.
Eyes that Kiss in the Corners
In this New York Times bestseller, a child notices that the shape of her eyes is different from her peers’. As she begins to notice all of the wonderful ways in which her eyes kiss in the corners and crinkle into crescent moons, she discovers how the shape of her eyes connects her to the important women in her life.
Vietnamese Children's Favorite Stories
Storyteller Phuoc Thi Minh Tran (Minnesota’s first Vietnamese librarian) authors this award-winning collection of Vietnamese folklores and legends, including "The Story of Tam and Cam" (the Vietnamese version of Cinderella), "The Jade Rabbit," and "The Legend of the Mai Flower." The stories are beautifully illustrated by Nguyen Thi Hop and Nguyen Dong.
