Choir Notes

Katy ISD gives us great budgets, and our boosters provide so much. We are ready to provide for our kiddos, but sometimes parents and patrons want to gift the “fun stuff”. It’s easier when you know what we would love to use in our classroom. If you feel moved to do so, here is the list of the “just for fun”. There are not obligations, here. There is nothing we “need” for kids to be successful. It’s an “only if ya wanna” kinda sitch. ☺️😉

Anne Guess, Head Choir Director
Anne Guess graduated from the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston with Cum Laude Honors; singing under the direction of Dr. Charles Hausmann and Dr. Betsy Weber while earning her undergraduate degree. After graduation, Mrs. Guess spent one year as a stage management intern at the Houston Grand Opera before beginning her teaching career in the Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District.
Mrs. Guess is currently in her twenty-fourth year of teaching and her twelfth year as the Head Choir Director at WoodCreek Junior High in the Katy Independent School District. Under her direction, the choirs at WoodCreek bring home consistent Sweepstakes, Superior, and Overall Outstanding Performance awards at many area contests and competitions. Mrs. Guess’s private students boast Superior ratings at local and State UIL Solo & Ensemble contests and claim membership in such elite groups as local Region Honor Choirs and the Texas All-State Choir. Her students have been honored in leading roles in many local musical productions.
Mrs. Guess is an ING Grant recipient, a two time GRAMMY Music Educator Award Quarterfinalist, and a recipient of the WoodCreek Junior High PTA Honorary Life Member Award in recognition of service to students above and beyond the call of duty. She is also a four time Teacher of the Year finalist. She presented her clinic Retention is Recruiting at the TMEA 2016 Clinic and Convention and authored an article of the same name. She is pleased to serve Region 23 as UIL Concert & Sight Reading Evaluation Host, and is the former Secretary Treasurer for Region 23. Mrs. Guess is currently the Vice President for TMEA Region 23. Mrs. Guess is an active adjudicator, classroom clinician, Region honor choir clinician, and also enjoys performing.
Mrs. Guess is driven in her teaching by the philosophy that every child deserves a fantastic music education, every child deserves a champion, and that every music educator has the responsibility to love the children enough to give them both. She strives to achieve this high standard in every interaction she has as an educator.
Mrs. Guess is a wife, mother, and step-mother. She is married to the WCJH band director, Bobby Guess, and they have 2 daughters: Zoe and Vasileia. Her step-son Zachary was a 7 year choir member who began his singing career in Mrs. Guess’s choirs. Zoe has committed to Baylor University as a Music Education Major after earning her 7 year singer award at Katy High School. Zoe is a WCJH Choir alumna. Mrs. Guess’s youngest child, Vasileia, is currently passionate about basketball and singing in the WCJH Varsity Treble Choir.
When Mrs. Guess is not making music, she loves crochet, reading, puzzles, and a good workout.
Conley Cumo, Assistant Director
Mrs. Cumo is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University. In the fall of 2025, Mrs. Cumo will begin her 2nd year of teaching at WoodCreek Junior High and her 3rd year in education. In addition to teaching, Mrs. Cumo is a professional singer and active adjudicator.
Mrs. Cumo is a third-generation teacher and is deeply rooted in Katy ISD. She attended Katy Elementary, Katy Junior High, and Katy High School. She was a 7-year choir member, two-year TMEA All-State Choir Member, and recipient of the TMEA Past President's Scholarship. Mrs. Guess was her private voice instructor from 6th grade through her Senior year of High School.
When Mrs. Cumo is not making music, she loves cooking, bingeing new shows, fishing, or shopping.
