We have loved our partnership with InterQuest CARES over the last 4 years. Today we got to meet Simba and be part of his training as he awaits a placement at another campus. Simba got to practice the "VISIT" command as he and his handler walked around campus and into classes. He is a two year old Golden Retriever bred to be a service dog. When he was a little too hyper during that training, he was placed with Interquest CARES and is doing remarkably well. We also got to meet the little puppy Ginger who did not visit with the students or in the campus, but loved the attention given to her by the staff.

These once a month visits are always a great welcome to our campus. Students can sign up for one-on-one time or in small groups in a private room. They get whole group interaction in the morning and during activity period when the dogs who are visiting that day just hang out with the students.

Fruit & Vegetable Planting at Endeavor!

This week students at Endeavor had the opportunity to plant fruit and vegetable seeds in our garden beds! They learned how to plant and care for these seeds, explored the different parts of a plant, and brainstormed how to protect their crops from creatures who may try to snack on them.

Throughout the rest of the school year, students will be able to care for this garden, watch it grow, and hopefully be able to harvest some produce by summer! This hands-on experience sparked amazing questions, and they are excited to see our garden flourish. Our goal is to invite a professional gardener to speak to them about planting, provide advice for our plants, and serve as a career mentor opportunity for students.

In other news, our pocket prairie is almost ready for planting! This week, the ground was prepared and edging was installed for our planting project next week. Both Project Green students and Mrs. Perez’ science classes are excited to see the bare soil transformed into a thriving habitat for birds and butterflies. It is incredible to see how much these students have learned about conservation, and how much they are looking forward to making Endeavor a little more beautiful.

Did You Know?

  • Many vegetables, like lettuce and spinach, can regrow after being harvested once, just cut the leaves and let them sprout again!

  • Native prairie plants have deep root systems (sometimes over 10 feet long!) that help prevent erosion and filter rainwater.

  • Pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds are responsible for helping produce about one out of every three bites of food we eat!

What is the ACT/SAT test?

Both the SAT and the ACT are nationally administered, standardized tests that help schools evaluate your application and see how prepared you are for college courses. The SAT and ACT generally cover the same topics. Both ACT and SAT scores are used for college admissions decisions and awarding merit-based scholarships. Most colleges do not prefer one test over the other. Neither the SAT nor ACT is harder than the other. Different students tend to do better on one test than the other.

Ask Mrs. Jackson or Mrs. Salinas for more information.
