Out and About in Our Schools
I am so enjoying my visits to our schools! I had a great time watching Buel students run through an obstacle course in the gym during PE. Check out the video below to see students working on gross motor skills and strength!
MSD Family/Community Roundtables
As promised in my Fall Town Hall meetings, I am launching a monthly roundtable forum for district families and community members on the fourth Tuesday of each month, beginning with Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m.
These meetings are for any parent, guardian, or community member to join me for an open conversation on how MSD can better meet the needs of ALL students! We want these meetings to stay solution-based so I encourage you to bring your best ideas to the meetings. The input gathered during these meetings will guide our district goals for the upcoming year.
You do not have to RSVP and don't have to stay the entire time. Join us any time during the 60 minutes.
Thank you and hope to see many of you there! Zoom link here.
Family Resource Center
The new Family Resource Center is launching its first presentation on Thursday, Jan. 13 via Zoom.
Per feedback collected in a ThoughtExchange, the session will focus on how families can help students access the school library databases. The goal is to encourage students to move beyond a simple Google search and find quality resources for research.
The session will be conducted via Zoom and led by library/media specialists Maureen Tracy (K-5), Heidi Sumner (6-8), Lori McGreal (9-12).
Find out more about the center on our website.
Where is the Bus?
MSD is rolling out a new service for registered bus-rider families. A free app for smartphones and desktops is now available that can help families track the progress of the bus and send notifications for when the bus is getting close or if there is a delay.
Find out more on our website.
COVID Updates
Earlier this week, I issued a special edition of the Brockett Bulletin to address COVID updates.
If you missed it, click here to read. And here's a link to yesterday's update about isolation/quarantine periods that was sent last night via ParentSquare.
Community Salute
Thank you to the Arts Alliance of Yamhill County (and former MSD principal Deborah Weiner) for your years of hosting the Paper Gardens Creative Writing Contest!
The annual competition gives students a chance to explore new forms of poetry and prose in a supportive and welcoming environment of friendly competition. Click to find out about this year’s contest.
