Superior High School 2024/25 Dates
This document is a good resource for trying to plan ahead. We are plugging in dates as we hear of them. This is subject to change, but want to keep you all in the loop.
Principal's Message
Spartan Families:
The end of the first quarter at SHS is this Friday. Next Friday, November 15, you will receive a progress report for your student. The progress report will provide you a snapshot of your student’s progress on each of the standards in their courses. If a standard has been summatively assessed, you will see a numerical score of 1-4 (or NEE if the student has not shown any evidence of learning on the standard). If the standard has not been summatively assessed, you may see a comment from the teacher indicating your student’s current progress toward mastery of the standard.
Final grades are not calculated until the end of the semester (end of the second Quarter) near the end of January.
It is not uncommon for students to not yet have attained a score of 3 (proficient) or higher at this point in the course as many of the standards are complex and are taught throughout the semester.
If your student has any scores of NEE on their progress report, it would be a good idea to check in with your student and your student’s teacher. Students who have a score of NEE on any standard in a class at the end of the semester do not earn credit for that class.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to your student’s teacher or principal if you have questions.
Best,
Aaron
PowerSchool Tips
With Quarter 1 ending, Spartan families should stay connected through PowerSchool to see their student's scores and feedback. Here is a QUICK GUIDE to help you navigate comments and feedback in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Remember that logging into any web browser is best, while looking at grades in PowerSchool. Skip the app.
If you need access to PowerSchool, please call the school for your student's access id and password to create an account.
Need help navigating PowerSchool? Take a look at the PowerSchool page on our website for helpful documents, and links.

Volunteers
If you plan to help out at Superior High School, please visit the link below and complete the 2 PART process. If you need assistance with the fee associated with the background check, please email leann.egnash@superior.k12.wi.us and she can help you. We do not want this fee to deter you from making a positive difference at our school. You can specify in your application if you want it to include multiple schools within our district. This check is valid for one year from the date it is complete.
PBIS at SHS
PBIS (positive behavior interventions and supports) is a system that focuses on reinforcing positive behavior by providing clear expectations to students and teaching them what those expectations look like in action. PBIS provides meaningful incentives for students when they are showing expected behavior and provides reteaching to students who may need more support in understanding how to show expected behavior throughout the building.
Our three core beliefs are work, respect, and belong. We have conversations about these values throughout our building. We explain what it looks like to work, respect, and belong as a student in each area of our school and encourage students to show work, respect, and belong by creating incentives. Based off of student data, we are still needed to continue to focus on attendance (kids in seats on time every day). Staff are encouraged to award students with a Spartan ticket, which they can turn in for various incentives. How can you help support our efforts? We are looking for prizes, gift cards, or experiences that will get our students excited. Any donations can be turned into the main office to the attention of Matt Amerson. We have also created this Amazon Wishlist.

Counselors Corner
Mental Health First Aid
Teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA) is an evidence-based course developed to teach teens in grades 9-12 how to assist and support a friend or classmate who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge — and get assistance from a trusted adult. For the past four years, Superior High School, with the support of UW Extension staff, has been offering this course to the students in 11th grade. As of this week, 270 of our 11th grade students have completed some or all of the course. Students who complete the course as well as the pre- and post-knowledge survey receive a national certification. Currently 175 of our juniors (about half of the junior class) are eligible to receive national certification when they complete the post-survey. Great job juniors!!!
