Submit a Video for National Skating Month
Happy #NationalSkatingMonth! Celebrate with us by building a virtual skating program chain with skaters from TGCFSC! See a video below for an example and instructions of how to film.
1) Skate in from the left side of the screen
2) Add a unique element
3) Exit on the right side of the screen
Email your video to Stacey at secretary@texasgulfcoastfsc.org. At the end of the month we will stitch all the videos together and make a video collage to share with everyone to celebrate National Skating Month.

Coach’s Corner
Competitions from a Coaches Perspective
Ever experienced competition jitters? If you have, or when you do, know you are not alone – your coach is feeling them, too!
After 26 years of coaching all kinds of skaters at a wide array of levels and with many different goals, I can say every time – it doesn’t matter what level, event, goal, or skater, competitions are nerve-wracking! Turns out I’m not alone, either – 100% of the staff coaches I spoke with said they, too, get nervous watching their athletes compete. A sheet of ice makes for a big stage and the emotions are always there, no matter which side of the wall you’re on.
Personally, watching the skaters I have the privilege of coaching feels similar to watching my own child compete, complete with racing heart, tons of love, and overwhelming hope. It is quite an experience to send a skater onto the ice believing they will take all the tools you have helped them develop and use them to the best of their ability, right then. Whatever the result, as it unfolds, I often recall the words of technical specialist and Olympic champion Coach Megan Faulkner: “The best part of competition is that through it we discover what we are capable of - and how much more we can actually do than we ever believed possible.”
Whether you’re as cool as the proverbial cucumber or feeling less than confident at your next competition, please remember to give your coach some extra love; they are feeling some wild emotions, too! Thank you, skaters and families, for trusting us to be part of your grand adventure.
