WETWANG CEPRIMARY SCHOOLWEEK ENDING 15TH NOVEMBER 2019

'Learning and growing in the love of God.' (1 John 4:16)

NEW CHAIR OF GOVERNORS

We are very pleased that Andrew McCormack has agreed to become our new Chair of Governors.

Andrew has been Vice Chair of Governors for the past three years and during that time has been part of the team supporting Anne through the appointment of Peter Richardson as head and the successful inspection of Ofsted at Wetwang and Sledmere and the recent SIAM inspection at Sledmere.

He has a wide range of experience as a director of divisions of a major UK company for over twenty years and in the community as Chair of Wetwang Parish Council and Treasurer of St Nicholas Church.

The Federation has taken significant steps forward over recent years which was reflected in the inspection reports. Andrew and the governors are committed to building on the positive assessments to ensure that the children , staff, parents and carers continue to be part of a school which develops through our vision, aims and values.

LEARNING

Class 1 - are learning about Dinosaurs. They are learning about where fossils come from and about the life of Mary Anning, a famous palaeontologist, who lived in the Nineteenth Century. When she was just 12, Mary and her family discovered the skull of a mysterious creature poking out from a cliff. They thought it might be a crocodile, but what she had discovered was actually an ancient reptile called an ichthyosaur. Click below if you would like to find out more with your child.

Class 2 have been learning all about natural disasters and how they occur. We looked at volcanoes and how they erupt and we did a science investigation using fizzy pop and mentos. We have investigated the different layers of the earth and have been report writing on it. Do you know the four layers? Click below if you are interested in learning more. We have been descriptive writing about a volcano erupting - making sure to use as many adverbs and adjectives as we can.

In Maths, we are just starting on multiplication and division.

Class 3 - have been learning about Remembrance. They have reflected about its significance a hundred years on from the original event. They are also working hard to improve their writing. The dedication and determination to improve from all pupils is commendable.

CHARITY SUPPORT - THANK YOU

Thank you to all members of the school community who were able to attend the short service in St Nicholas' Church on Remembrance Day. We are proud that we remember those who have given so much and that we continue to think about those who are serving now.

CHANGING THE WORLD

We are eager that our pupils take a pivotal role in school life. We also instill in them a passion for social justice. Part of this includes thinking about their community and the wider global community. We wonder if there are any injustices which your child would like to change? Please let us know how we can support them with this? E.g. Reducing the amount of plastic in the oceans.

BIG QUESTIONS

These are our latest Big Questions:

'How can we show respect?'

'How does remembering show respect?'

See below for three ways we aim to teach about Respect in our school.
