Welcome to a new week of school! My third-grade homeroom had a thoughtful discussion about some of the needs in our community. Together, we decided that maintaining good oral hygiene is an important part of staying healthy. As part of our class effort, for our community service project each student has been asked to bring in a new toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste to contribute to our Community Closet.

In addition, we are excited to welcome a guest dental hygienist who will visit our class to talk about the importance of oral health and how we can take better care of our teeth and gums. The deadline to contribute (if you can) will be December 5. Thank you for your continued support in helping our students make a positive impact in our community.

Hello Families,

Wishing you a very special Thanksgiving holiday.

Third Grade Classes

Our historical fiction reading continues with the topic of immigration. We will discuss why people formed communities: need for security, religious freedom, law, and material well-being. As students read to identify key ideas and details about immigration, they will also take notes and summarize the text. If needed, writing prompts will guide the writing process. Making text-to-text connections will both guide the writing process and enhance comprehension of the topic. The text illustrations will also be an inspiration to read the text. Grammar still centers on nouns, while spelling focuses on three-letter blends.

Fourth Grade Classes

The fourth grade drama genre is still giving focus to identifying the key ideas and details about animals in fiction. Taking notes as students read, will help with summarizing the text. If needed, students will be given prompts to expand their writing. Using text-to-text connections will also strengthen comprehension and written expression. As students practice reading the play, they will not only give attention to their lines, but also on the actions of the characters and what happens as a result of these actions. Then, there are stage directions. There is excitement about acting out special characters in our classroom reading of a play. Grammar relates to possessive nouns; spelling focuses on r-controlled sounds.

Third Grade

This week, third graders will be wrapping up their plant unit. Students will play a review game to help prepare, and then we will take the unit test. It will be a busy week leading up to Thanksgiving, but if time allows, we will begin our next unit on organisms and their environments.
