From the Principal's Desk
Hello Little Viking Families,
Learning is in full swing here at Salt Creek. All students have finished their benchmark assessments and we are looking forward to seeing how much growth we can make this year! Kindergarten iready reports will be sent home with students today.
With the end of October, comes a lot of fall fun! Please read below for some important school event details!
1) FTC Fallfest 10/22 - Next Wednesday FTC is hosting the district fallfest HERE at Salt Creek Primary School! Thank you to all the families who have donated to our candy monster! That candy will be given out during fallfest as students come to “Trick or Treat” through the halls! Join us at school from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, 10/22. In addition to trick or treating, there will be festive games and treats, pumpkin decorating, and crafts! Want to help? Sign up here to decorate a station for trick-or-treating and other volunteer opportunities.
2) Upcoming Field Trips: on 10/24 - 2nd Grade will be visiting Seigal’s Farm, on 10/29 - Kindergarten will be visiting the Lincoln Park Zoo, and on 10/29 Preschool will be visiting the Morton Arboretum. Please note that for preschool that day ALL preschool students (AM AND PM Sessions) will arrive at school at 9:00 am and return for dismissal at 11:30 am.
3) Red Ribbon Week: Below you will find a flyer for our Red Ribbon Spirit Week on 10/27- 10/31. Red Ribbon Week is an annual drug, violence, and bullying prevention campaign held the last week of October each year. We use it to remind students to make healthy choices each and every day!
4) Halloween events: On 10/31 all classes will have a Halloween party and costume parade! All parents are welcome to come to school to view the parade. Students will parade around the blacktop. Please see the picture below for viewing details!
AM Preschool: 9:30 Party and 10:15 Parade
Kindergarten/1st Grade: 11:30-12:15 Party and 2:05 Parade
PM Preschool/2nd Grade: 1:15-2:00 Party and 2:05 Parade
5) Non-Halloween participants: I wanted to share the outline of the school day on 10/31, in case you do not wish for your child to participate in Halloween activities at school. Any student absent from school on Halloween for religious reasons is considered an excused absence, but our morning will consist of typical learning activities. Students will be permitted to wear costumes to school that day to fit the “Dress up to put bullying down” theme for Red Ribbon Week. Students can dress up in Halloween costumes or choose not to participate. After lunch, classes will host Halloween parties and we will end the day with a costume parade. Please see the times above for your child’s grade level party and parade details. Some families choose to have their children attend school in the morning, but are picked up early to avoid the Halloween-themed afternoon. If there are any students present at school whose families request that they not participate in Halloween activities, those students will have alternate fall-themed activities in the afternoon. Again, if you have a concern regarding your students' participation in Halloween please contact the office. Thank you!
Have a great weekend,
-Mrs. Scanlan
Red Ribbon Week
Halloween Parade Details:
PM PreK, Kindergarten, 1st Grade and 2nd Grade:
At 2:05, students will exit the gym blacktop door (the dismissal door) and parade around the blacktop following the blue lines above. Preschool will lead the parade, followed by Kindergarten, First grade, and Second grade at the end.
There will be cones designating the parent viewing areas. We ask parents to please stand behind the cones to wave/take pictures of your students in the parade. If time permits, we will do a second lap, and all students will reenter the building to prepare for dismissal.
If you are coming to the parade and plan to pick up your child instead of them taking a bus, please notify the office before 2pm. And remember to scan our QR code to let us know you are present so they can be released upon the 2:30 dismissal bell.
AM PRESCHOOL STUDENTS:
They will follow this same parade route, but it may be a little smaller! The AM PreK costume parade will be at 10:15 and students will be dismissed from the blacktop after their parade.

Don't forget to check and pay any overdue lunch balances. You can check balances and pay on your parent Skyward account. I Love U Guys ❤️
Standard Response Protocol
Salt Creek District 48 has adopted an emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.
Payments & Fees
In your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.
Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
