United in Gratitude This November
Dear Families,
November is a wonderful time to reflect on gratitude and kindness! This month in our counseling lessons, students will explore what it means to be a kind and respectful neighbor, friend, and peer while learning meaningful ways to show appreciation and support those in need. Throughout our discussions, we will highlight how small acts of kindness—such as sharing, including others, and offering compliments—can make a powerful, positive impact on our school community.
Wishing you and your family a joyful and peaceful November filled with gratitude!

🦁Thank You!🦁
We extend our sincere gratitude to our friends "The Ladies Sunday School Class" from Crossroads Baptist Church for their incredibly generous donation to our school!
Supporting Our Lions 💖🦁
Our generous community partner donate essential food pantry items to help ensure our school families have access to the resources they need to stay nourished and supported.
We are grateful to partner with such caring and dedicated individuals who share our commitment to supporting our Lions! We look forward to continuing this meaningful partnership throughout the school year.
We’re Here to Help! ❤️
If your family could benefit from additional food assistance, please reach out to our school counselors. We are happy to share information about available food pantry items and community resources in a confidential, caring, and supportive manner. No family should have to navigate these challenges alone!

Growing Our Gratitude: The Thankful Heart
Core Focus Area: Kinder-2nd Grade
What is Gratitude?
Explaining gratitude as "a warm, happy feeling in your heart when you notice the good things around you and say thank you."
Helping children notice good things using their five senses (e.g., tasting a yummy snack, feeling a warm hug, hearing a fun song).
Everyday Thankfulness
Helping students see that gratitude isn't just for big presents—it's also for small, everyday moments (like playing at recess or a friendly smile).
Recognizing the helpers, friends, and family members who show care and kindness.
What is Mindfulness? (And Why Do it?)
Mindfulness means tuning into what is happening right now—inside your mind, inside your body, and in the world around you—with curiosity and kindness.
Explaining the role of the Amygdala (the brain's alarm system) and the Prefrontal Cortex (the brain's wise supervisor). Mindfulness helps us pause so the wise supervisor stays in charge instead of the alarm system taking over.
Everyday Mindfulness in Action
Mindful vs. Mind Full: Differentiating between being distracted/overwhelmed by thoughts of the past or future versus paying clear attention to the present moment.
Spotting Mindful Moments: Identifying everyday situations where mindfulness helps (e.g., before taking a big test, during a noisy lunchroom period, or when feeling frustrated during sports/games).

Why Are Coping Skills/Strategies Important?
Without healthy coping skills, kids are likely to act out, sending a message that says, “I feel out of control so I’m going to act out of control.” Children who don’t know how to deal with their feelings are also more likely to turn to unhealthy coping strategies as they grow older.
