2nd Grade Newsletter
November 17-21
Hello 2nd Grade Families,
Thank you for another wonderful week with your amazing kiddos! We had a great time wrapping up some projects and diving into exciting new units of learning.
🌟 Math
We’ve moved on from geometry and have started exploring measurement! Students have been busy measuring shoes, desks, classroom objects, and even their friends! Ask your student what new measuring rules and tools they’ve learned about this week. They’re becoming quite the experts!
📚 ELAR (English Language Arts & Reading)
We’re putting the finishing touches on our platypus research projects by completing the final step in the writing process-sharing/publishing. Students are creating a google slides or posters to show off what they’ve learned, and they’re so proud to share their new knowledge. They are also learning how to perform a presentation digitally. It’s been wonderful watching them combine creativity and technology to present their work!
🗺️ Social Studies
This week, we’re learning all about maps...directions, landmarks, and how to get from point A to point B. Don’t be surprised if you start hearing some enthusiastic “backseat drivers” helping you navigate around town!
🔬 Science
We’re wrapping up our Sound Unit with a fun, hands-on performance task. Students are working together to plan and build their own instruments to demonstrate how force affects sound (volume and pitch). Next week, they’ll put their plans into action!
In fact, we could use your help gathering materials for this project. Please send in any cardboard pieces, empty paper towel and toilet paper rolls, empty tissue boxes, cups, straws, dry beans, or rice you might have at home. Your donations are greatly appreciated!
Thank you for your continued support and for sharing your wonderful children with us each day. We’re looking forward to another exciting week of learning before heading out for the Thanksgiving break.

CogAT Information
Prosper ISD will administer the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) to second and fourth grade students district-wide in December. The CogAT is a norm-referenced, standardized test measuring learned reasoning and problem-solving skills in three different areas: verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal. Reasoning skills develop gradually throughout a person's lifetime and at different rates for different individuals. CogAT result information is used by teachers to better understand a student’s ability in relation to his or her achievement.
There is no need to prepare for this test. You can support your child by making sure they are rested and well-fed on the day of the test.
Our campus will test on the following dates:
2nd Grade: December 2nd and 3rd
4th Grade: December 4th
Results will be shared with you in early January.

We truly appreciate your help in making sure every child has a stress-free and smooth lunchtime. Thank you for your cooperation and support!
