WEEKLY HAWK
February 2-6, 2026
Message from Mrs. Lloyd
Hello Homestead Families,
Wow! What an exciting week at Homestead!
On Monday, 5th graders, who have been preparing for their trip to Ameritowne, ran the big elections for Judge and Mayor. Eight students presented speeches as they ran for the honorable positions. All students did a fantastic job of both delivering speeches and showing respect to one another as they presented. Congratulations to David who will be serving as the Judge of Ameritowne and Lane who will be serving as the Mayor. Great work!
On Thursday, we celebrated our 100th day of school! Kindergartners came dressed up as 100 year olds and engaged in a variety of 100-themed activities throughout the day. Just down the hall, 1st graders had the opportunity to try some virtual reality! Kids had the best time! In the evening, Mrs.Datillo and I were excited to support our exceptional volunteer of the year, Sally Hart, at an honorary dinner event hosted by CCSD. Thank you, Sally, for all of your dedication to 1st grade over the years.
On Friday, 3rd graders had an amazing time at their field trip to see Shrek the Musical! Additionally, Kindergarteners had their Rodeo Day! Students were dressed up and had so much fun going through the activities, singing along, and having a campfire. Thank you to both 3rd grade and Kindergarten for putting together such memorable days for Homestead students!
On Friday and Saturday, CCSD hosted their annual spelling bee. We are so proud of Harlow, David, and Annie who represented Homestead at the spelling bee! On Saturday, Harlow progressed and placed 12th in the Cherry Creek School District for elementary students! Way to go, Harlow!!!
Last, but certainly not least, 100% Homestead is officially up and running! PTCO will be taking donations until February 6. 100% Homestead is our big Spring fundraiser. Funds raised go towards supporting teacher assistant salaries, integrated arts enrichment, special teacher grants, technology subscriptions, and more! More information is down below. Thank you in advance for any support you are able to give!
Take care,
Katie
A final word...
I want all families to know that Homestead remains a place of care, stability, and belonging for every child. While current events may not impact all families directly, I recognize that they can still bring worry or questions for some in our community. As a staff, we are committed to ensuring every child feels protected, valued, and able to learn each day. As always, my door is always open, and I welcome dialogue as a way to listen and partner with families.
Hawks Highlights
This week's Hawks Highlights were:
Aron: Did a good job in his class.
Emma: I earned my hawk sticker by remembering what we did last in Second Step.
Mabel: Being good in Second Step.
Hank: Good listener.
Benji: I was following directions really well!
Attention: 5th Grade Families
On Friday, January 30th, a bright yellow flyer went home in your students Friday Folder asking where they plan to attend middle school. Please fill this out and return it to the main office no later than Tuesday, February 10, 2026. It is very important we receive this so we know where to send your child's cume file after leaving Homestead. Thank you for your help!
Looking for After School Activities?
**NEW CLUB JUST ADDED! We have several after school clubs and summer activities offered at Homestead through outside organizations such as Chess Club and Coding Club. Lost & Found
Welcome to the Lost and Found: the quiet waiting room for misplaced jackets, lonely lunchboxes, and water bottles.
Parents, if something has mysteriously vanished from your child’s backpack, please stop by and take a look. Chances are it’s here, wondering why no one has come for it yet.
Reunions happen here. Sometimes quickly. Sometimes after weeks of dramatic separation. Either way, we're rooting for a joyful reconnection!
Please note: Any items not claimed by February 9 will be donated!
Integrated Arts Hobby Horse Derby
We are approaching our second annual Integrated Arts Hobby Horse Derby! This is a fun way to collaborate and utilize all IA skills. Students work on balance, coordination, teamwork, rhythm, beat, and artistic expression. Each student will make a horse head for their hobby horse performance.
I would love some help managing yarn and assembling horse manes on the days that students design their horse heads, February 18-20. Sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A4AA8AC2CAAFFC61-61748405-horse
Thanks for your time and consideration. We are looking forward to this fun event!
Jump Rope for Heart
Jump Rope for Heart is approaching, and all Homestead students will have the opportunity to build their jump rope skills and participate in timed challenges during PE. Last year, students jumped for a combined total of over 24 hours during their PE classes!
The class that accumulates the longest total jump time will earn Boondocks Bowling Cards and take home the Jump Rope Bragging Rights Trophy to display in their classroom for the year. Our Jump Rope NEON (Prize Day) Party will take place on Wednesday, February 18th during IA times.
While Homestead will not be participating in the fundraising portion for the American Heart Association, families who wish to donate may do so voluntarily. Throughout February, prizes will be awarded to top jumpers in each class based on performance and effort. Prizes will not be tied to fundraising, as our focus is on skill development and individual achievement in physical education.
Families interested in registering their child, completing Finn’s Mission, learning hands-only CPR, or exploring online activities can scan the attached QR code. If donations are made, the class that raises the most will earn a Choice Day in PE.
Ms. Brownell looks forward to seeing students showcase their jump rope skills while promoting cardiovascular fitness.

ATTENTION: All Volunteers at Homestead
Colorado legislation has prompted greater need to screen and document volunteers in our schools. As of January 2022, we began asking every volunteer to complete a brief application to support activities in CCSD schools.
If you are currently volunteering or plan to volunteer in the future, please complete the CCSD online volunteer form. To access the form, click on the following link: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/NzU0OmVuLVVT or scan the QR code. It should only take a few minutes to complete and you will only need to complete this form once a year to meet the requirements to volunteer in all CCSD buildings.
Please note: if you completed this application more than one year ago, it is time to do it again!
The safety and security of our students and staff remains our top priority. Every person entering our buildings must have a badge printed from our Raptor system or a District ID.
We want to thank you in advance for your support of our schools and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Homestead main office at 720.554.3700.
