Messages From Manchester

Thank you to everyone who was able to come out and join the Spooky Spint! Thank you to the PTA for hosting this event and everyone for raising money to support the Norwood School community. What a great time!

Please join us on Thursday for the Bingo for Books event, starting at 5:30. I can't wait to answer your questions and get to know your families! Stay afterwards to attend the PTA meeting from 6:30-7:30. We would love for you to join the team adn support the events that take place at Norwood.

We will be kicking off additional student programs starting next week, October 14th.

Mrs. Zarrella, will be kicking off iReady: My Path Boost on Tuesday mornings from 8:00-9:00, for grades K-2.
Ms. Natasha will be hosting "Storytellers in Action" for grades 3-5, after school on Tueadays & Thursdays from 3:15-4:15.

Beginning of the Year Assessments

Math & Reading iReady beginning of the year assessments have wrapped. Families can see student scores when they are logged into the program and go to "My Progress". We will communicate score breakdown soon.

This data will help our team meet students where they are and help support them on their learning journey.

Our Kindergarten classes kicked off last week and will continue until October 17th.

Fruits & Vegetable Program

Starting next week the Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program will kick off again this year. This program is made possible through a grant for all Warwick Schools. Please see the calendar!

Safety Team Update

For the safety of students and families, please use one-way traffic! This is essential during morning arrival and dropoff. Exit towards Pierce Ave ONLY! Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Attendance Matters

Attendance Matters

School attendance is a powerful predictor of student outcomes. Rhode Island defines chronic absenteeism as the percentage of students who miss 10% or more of school days during the year (or two days per month). Research shows that chronic absenteeism is associated with a number of negative consequences for students, including lower achievement, disengagement from school, course failure, and an increased risk of dropping out. Starting in October, we will be celebrating students monthly for being "on track" with their attendance. Students will be awarded a certificate and be able to enter a raffle to have breakfast or lunch with Ms. Manchester.

Student Absences

Students will be marked absent, no matter the reason, if they are not in school.

If the absence is due to illness please supply a doctor's note to have the absence labeled as an excused absence.

STUDENT ABSENCE CALL-IN PROCEDURE

In accordance with Rhode Island State Law #16-19-10, Notification of Pupil Absence, the Warwick School Department requires that all parents/guardians call their child’s elementary school on the day that he/she will not be in attendance. We would like to receive all calls by 9:15 in the morning. If you are aware of a pending absence, feel free to call at any time prior to the day of the absence. In the event we do not hear from you, an automated call will be sent at 10:00 a.m. to inform you that your child did not arrive at school.

Book Fair

Book fair will be held at Norwood from 10/15-10/17

The last night, 10/17, it will be open during the 5th Grade's Trunk or Treat

Trunk or Treat

Come have fun and support Norwood's 5th Grade at this year's TRUNK OR TREAT! Forms went home Friday. Please sign up to volunteer if you can donate candy and/or decorate your car! $1.00 person.
