Principal's Update
May 28, 2026
Good Morning Memorial Families,
My apologies for the delay in the newsletter getting out this week. Because it is Thursday, I am including information about NEXT week in this newsletter and one will not come out next Monday. The final newsletter for this school year will come out on June 8th.
The pictures above capture the spirit of last week so well. Our fourth graders, alongside fourth graders from Clough, presented an outstanding concert full of music that definitely incited some tears. I was so proud of them and the reality that this group is headed to middle school in a few short weeks hit very hard. Another exciting moment from last week included welcoming kindergartener Weston Hale to the main office as our Principal for the Day. Principal Hale was an instant fan favorite when he declared that every class would receive an extra recess. Throughout the day he observed classrooms, brought the snack cart around to our teachers, and introduced the fourth grade chorus at our in school concert. It was a fun and busy day for him. Finally, we had a group of our students attend the Grafton Special Olympics Games last Friday. It was a beautiful day on the Grafton High School track, and students participated in so many events- from sprint races to throwing events, to face paint. A highlight was receiving gold medals from the Grafton Firefighters at the end. We look forward to continuing this event each year moving forward alongside our friends from Grafton and Millbury.
Next week we have three more big events. First up is field day on Monday. Great thanks to Erin Valcourt and her team of volunteers for once again planning and executing what I know will be the best time for our students. The weather looks iffy for Monday right now, and we do have Tuesday planned as a rain date if the forecast were to not be favorable. On Thursday we will be holding our annual Inspired Learning Day. This year we have planned career connected immersive experiences for our students. All students across the district will be engaging in this day, and we will have groups learning both at Memorial as well as other places around town. I will be sure to share some special moments from the day on our Facebook page later next week. To wrap up our week, we will be welcoming author Dennis Matthew to Memorial on Friday. Dennis brings a background in speech and language pathology and a passion for writing and singing. We will be singing along with him during his presentation, and each child will be receiving a book from him that day. Great thanks to our PTO for supporting this author visit next week.
Finally, our Student Council is hoping to fit in one more Spirit Week next week. See the schedule below for more details.
Enjoy the weekend and all of the fun that next week will bring!
Warmly,
Wendy
