Tuesdays with Mr. Knoll
Hello Cardinal Family,
As we prepare for another exciting school year, I want to share several important updates.
The next edition of the Cardinal Communiqué will arrive in mailboxes in early July. Inside, you'll find a QR code and a link to our website inviting you to participate in our online community strategic planning survey. That survey is also linked HERE. For those of you who prefer to fill out a paper survey, we have made them available at all of our school buildings and at the Canfield Public Library. You can fill it out at home and mail it to the central office at 100 Wadsworth St., or drop it off weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Your feedback is invaluable as we begin developing our next five-year Strategic Plan, which will guide the district starting with the 2027-28 school year. We hope every family will take a few moments to share their thoughts and help shape the future of Canfield Local Schools.
At recent community forums and Board of Education meetings, District Treasurer Mr. Marko and I have shared information about the challenging financial outlook facing Canfield Local Schools, the budget reductions already implemented, and the broader funding challenges impacting public education across Ohio. I believe it is important to be transparent with our community and to provide a clear understanding of the district’s financial position and the reasoning behind our decisions. I encourage you to review the document below (and linked HERE) to learn more about our current financial picture and the steps we are taking to responsibly plan for the future.
As always, I encourage you to stay connected with everything happening throughout the district by visiting our website and following our official social media channels. We look forward to sharing student achievements, district news, and important updates with our community throughout the year.
Thank you for your continued partnership and unwavering support for our students, staff, and schools. Together, we will continue to build on our tradition of excellence and ensure that Canfield remains a place where every student can thrive.

FINANCIAL STATE OF THE SCHOOLS
BOE APPROVES OPERATING LEVY FOR NOVEMBER BALLOT
At its June 30th meeting, the Canfield Board of Education voted to place a 5.9-mill operating levy on the November ballot. If approved, the funding generated by this levy will allow us to maintain the outstanding programs, dedicated staff, and extracurricular opportunities that have made Canfield one of Ohio's premier school districts.
In addition to preserving the exceptional educational experience our students receive each day, passage of the levy will provide critical funding for building maintenance. As our schools continue to age, these investments are necessary to ensure our buildings remain safe, operational, and up to date for current and future generations of Cardinals.
Lunch Price Update
The district will see a modest adjustment to student lunch prices for the 2026-27 school year. Lunch prices will increase by 5 cents per meal at each building. Elementary school lunches will increase from $2.70 to $2.75, while middle and high school lunches will increase from $2.95 to $3.00. This small change will help offset the continued rise in food and delivery costs while allowing us to provide quality meals for our students.
School Supply Lists Available
School supply lists are posted in the news section on our Website homepage.
But, before you go shopping, note that Ohio’s 2026 sales tax holiday will run for three days, from 12:00 a.m. Friday, August 7th through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, August 9th. During this back-to-school weekend, eligible items are exempt from state and local sales taxes both in-store and online. Visit the State of Ohio Website, linked HERE, to learn more.
