Message from Superintendent Mueller
Good Afternoon, CUSD,
It’s been a fantastic week of full school days across our district!
Next Thursday at 4pm is the CUSD Governing Board’s regular monthly meeting. The agenda will be posted on the website this coming Monday at 4pm.
Tonight, our Islander football teams are home again on Niedermeyer Field. The JV game kicks off at 4pm, followed by Varsity at 7pm. Come out and cheer on our talented student athletes for some Friday night fun!
Our partners at the San Diego County Office of Education regularly offer wonderful educational opportunities for both students and families. Take a look at this fall’s Digital Wellness Series for Families to discover some great resources.
A reminder that all schools will be closed on Monday in observance of Labor Day. Have a safe, restful, and wonderful long weekend - we look forward to welcoming all of our students back on Tuesday.
Have a great weekend,
Karl J. Mueller

CAUGHT POG'N!
As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments celebrating how our CUSD family is bringing our Portrait of a Graduate vision to life. What a positive testament to our community!
- Kristen Caputo took the massive wall of STAR data available under my login and whittled it down to only showing my current students. This makes it possible for me to interact with the data easily, whereas before it was very unwieldy. I appreciate the time that she put into working on this task, therefore saving me a lot of time!
- Krystle Stadler is an exceptional school psychologist who is deeply committed to helping children and families reach their highest potential. She is a thoughtful, compassionate and supportive resource for both students and staff, always willing to help and collaborate. Krystle is also a natural leader who steps up when needed and develops thoughtful solutions and processes that make everyone's work more manageable. Her dedication, reliability and positive attitude make a meaningful difference in our school community. We are so lucky to have her!
- Ms. Bromley, Mrs. Rial, Mrs. Cummins: At Back to School night with Mrs. Cummins, I was struck with gratitude at what incredible teachers we have had the pleasure of meeting during our time at SSE. Ms. Bromley, Mrs. Rial, and Mrs. Cummins are all incredible educators who are so passionate about helping their young students not just thrive at academics but grow into well-rounded, responsible, compassionate members of society. We're grateful to know our son is in such good hands.
- Julie Gillespie is a treasure. She shows up to work every day with humility, love in her heart, a helpful and generous approach to everyone she meets, a can-do attitude, as well as helpful suggestions, resources, ideas, crafts, and anecdotes to share. We have asked her to change roles and people she supports many times in these few weeks we've been in school, and she never hesitates nor balks. She expresses appreciation and empathy for all the Voyagers she encounters. To live and work with this kind of ethic is pretty extraordinary, and Julie, we see you and love you for it.
- Ellen Cody and Gisele Renly are our new Intervention Specialist Team at SSES and they are bringing trusted, respected, expert, and influential energy to their work with colleagues in support of our students' academic (and confidence) progress. We are grateful for them and our Learning Dept. and VES Intervention Specialist Teams for collaborating on a plan to train our teachers and coach our students. Let's GO!
