Teacher Appreciation Week

We are celebrating our teachers the week of May 6-10. If you would like to participate in showing your appreciation via social media, please fill out this form and include a picture if you wish! https://forms.gle/4sH65yU6y1rkD7K26 All submissions will be posted on social media in May.

Lockdown Drill Next Week

On Wednesday, May 1, we will conduct a Fire Drill and Lockdown Drill with students beginning at 9:50 am. The lockdown drill will last less than 5 minutes and is initiated by an all call announcement that states, "Lockdown. Locks, lights, out of sight." When this announcement is made, students will be directed to move to a location in their classroom out of the sight of the door while the teacher ensures that the door is locked and shuts the lights off. Students will remain seated and quiet until the all clear is given a few minutes later.

Parents may opt their students out of the lockdown drill by picking their student up from school before 9:45 and returning them at 10:15. If you are choosing to opt your student out of the drill, please come to Door 1 by 9:30 so we have time to retrieve your student from their classroom and send them outside to you prior to the drills.

If you have any questions about the emergency drills, please reach out to me.

Thank you,

Steve Johanson

MDE Redesigning Assessment Reports – Your Voice Matters!

Do you have ideas about how the statewide assessment results, like the MCA, could be shared with the public and school and district staff?

MDE is beginning the process of redesigning the statewide assessment reports. This includes evaluating how student results are organized and communicated (including the labels like "does not meet” or β€œexceeds" the standards, and what the reports will look like for new academic standards). The redesigned reports will be seen for the first time in summer and fall 2025.

Please take the survey to share your experience. It should take no longer than 15 minutes. The survey is now open for submissions until May 19. Responses are completely anonymous.

Your voice is important to this process. We appreciate your time and consideration.

Please reach out to mde.testing@state.mn.us with any questions or concerns about the survey or feedback process.

Picking up your student during school hours 🏫

Please note that when students have to leave during the day, they will remain with their class until their pick-up person has arrived and either called the office or buzzed the door. Due to confidentiality and students not getting picked up at their specified time, we can not have children waiting in the office. Please understand that if you need them at a specific time for an appointment, you may need to come a few minutes earlier so we have time to get them from their classroom.

WELLNESS WEEK - April 29 to May 3 WELLNESS WEEK - April 29 to May 3

Reading: A Foundation for Success Reading: A Foundation for Success

Every week we will pass along some tips for reading with your children.

zoom_out_map
Squeeze reading into a busy day. You can include reading during:

  • Breakfast. One parent makes sure the kids get a "breakfast of champions" by reading aloud while they eat. Best of all, the kids become so engrossed with the story they stop arguing with each other!
  • Cooking time. Ask your child to read aloud while you cook. Possibilities include a book your child is reading for school, a story your child wrote in class or even the school lunch menu.
  • Wait time. Read books, magazines or news articles while you wait for the doctor or dentist.
  • Bathtub time. On hectic days, one family schedules read-aloud time during baths for good, clean fun.
  • Travel time. Today's families seem to spend a lot of time on the road. Try recording a favorite book while you read aloud to your child. Then play it as you drive so your child can read along while listening. Keep a small stack of books and magazines handy so your child can read during the afternoons spent traveling back and forth to activities.

Lunchroom/Playground Help

Lunchroom/Playground Help

We would love to have your help! Whether one day a week or a couple of hours here and there, we could use some additional help opening milk containers, wiping down tables, and building relationships with kids! If you love spending time outdoors, we could use some help supervising out on the playground.
