Dear Hornet Parents,
As we continue through January and the second half of the school year, we remain committed to working in partnership with you to support student learning and success. Your involvement in monitoring grades, encouraging attendance, and reinforcing school expectations plays an important role in your child’s education, and we sincerely appreciate your continued support.
Please be mindful of safety during the upcoming winter storm. We encourage families to take precautions when traveling, ensure students are dressed appropriately for cold weather, and stay alert for any school communication regarding weather-related updates.
A Fresh Start for the Semester
This time of year provides an opportunity for students to strengthen routines, refocus on learning, and work toward academic and personal goals. We encourage families to speak with their children about responsibility, effort, and positive decision-making. When students maintain strong habits and clear expectations, they are better prepared to succeed both academically and socially.
Attendance Matters
Regular attendance remains one of the most important factors in student success. Being present and on time each day helps students stay engaged in instruction, build strong relationships, and maintain academic momentum. Thank you for partnering with us to reinforce the importance of consistent attendance and punctuality.
Important Reminders
- Tardy Policy: Students should arrive on time each morning to avoid missing valuable instructional time.
- Student IDs: For safety purposes, students are required to wear their school ID daily.
- Game Attendance: Students in grades K–8 must be accompanied by an adult to attend school games.
- Personal Devices: Cell phones and earbuds should remain put away during the school day.
Staying Connected and Supporting Your Student
Even small actions at home can make a big difference in your child’s school experience. Families can support student success by:
- Checking Skyward regularly to monitor grades, assignments, and progress.
- Talking about school daily, including classes, goals, and challenges.
- Establishing consistent routines for bedtime, organization, and device use.
- Encouraging reading at home for 15–20 minutes each day.
- Reviewing school expectations together to reinforce rules and responsibilities.
- Celebrating successes, both big and small, to keep motivation high.
- Communicating with teachers when questions or concerns arise.
Your involvement and encouragement help students feel supported, confident, and motivated. Thank you for being an essential part of the Alice Johnson Jr. High family. We look forward to continuing our work together to support the success of our Hornets.

Our campus will begin testing EB students for TELPAS on Wednesday, February 18. It is important that students attend school in order to take their test. A reminder that this is a state requirement for ALL EB students.
Beginning Tuesday, September 2nd, we will start enforcing student ID requirements.
We want to ensure that all parents and students are aware of our campus tardy policy.
Slight changes have been made the to the bell schedule.
The goals of this revision are to (1) reduce hallway congestion during transitions and (2) streamline the day by reducing the total number of bells. The updated bell schedule is attached below.

Parents are not allowed to walk students to their class.
Doors will open at 8:00 am.
Car-riders/walkers will enter through the bus ramp doors.
CAR RIDERS

Please DO NOT drop off students prior to the drop-off zone.

Student Hornet Policies
Attention Parents:
We want to ensure that all students are aware of our campus policies and expectations. We have attached the student hornet policies for you to review with your children.
Please be sure to take a look at the dress code, as we have students that have been out of dress code.
English: Hornet Policies
Spanish: Las Políticas De Los Hornets
We are aware that our hornet students want to show their pride at athletic events and we want them to attend as many as possible!
As per the new Channelview Athletic Regulations, students attending games on campus- both Elementary & Middle School must be accompanied by a supervising adult and remain seated with them at all times.
We understand that this is different from previous year, but it is important that we communicate this with you all.
We hope that with your collaboration we can inform all of our students of this new policy!
