Dress Code 馃憰馃憱馃憲馃憻 Dress Code 馃憰馃憱馃憲馃憻

Though scholars are not required to wear uniforms this year, there are certain rules pertaining to dress that every district student must adhere to throughout the school year. Overall, a student鈥檚 dress, grooming, and appearance, including hairstyle, jewelry, makeup, and nails, must be safe, appropriate, and not disrupt or interfere with the educational process. If special circumstances in adhering to this policy should arise, please contact Jesseca Stone, Turner鈥檚 principal for assistance.

o Shirts/tops: Must have sleeves (no tank tops/halter tops), cover the scholar鈥檚 mid-section (no mid-drifts), and refrain from graphics with profane language, drugs, alcohol, or tobacco.

o Pants/bottoms: Pants need to fit or be belted (no saggy pants), shorts and/or skirts must be to mid-thigh or longer, no rips or tears in jeans unless leggings are worn underneath so skin does not show.

o Shoes: Basic flat tennis shoes are recommended. Tennis shoes MUST be worn for PE. Open-toed, backless, heeled, and wedged shoes are NOT allowed.

o Hats: Hats are allowed to be warn outdoors only. The school is not responsible for lost/stolen hats.

Below is the District Dress Code from the AUSD Parent Handbook:

Morning Drop Off Times and more.

Our main priority at Turner is to keep our scholars safe. To ensure the safety of all scholars and staff, we have the following expectations for entering our campus:

路 Scholars can arrive at 7:45am at the cafeteria gate. This is when adult supervision is available. DO NOT drop off scholars prior to 7:45am as there is no one to ensure their safety. If arriving prior to 7:45am, you will need to wait with your child until the gate opens and our staff is there to supervise.

路 At 7:45am, scholars may walk to the cafeteria for breakfast (7:45am - 8:10am) or may wait under the yellow overhang at the entry gate until 8:00am when scholars are released to go to walk-n-talk.

路 The school gates will be closed and locked when the school bell rings at 8:15am. Scholars who are late will need to enter through the front office breezeway to walk to class. No tardy pass is needed if both doors are open for entry (until 8:30am).

路 If a scholar arrives after 8:30am, a parent or guardian MUST accompany the scholar to the office as the scholar will need to be signed in and parent will need to sign the tardy pass before the scholar can go to class.

路 Perimeter gates near Marchetti Park and Bell Drive will be unlocked at 8:00am daily and relocked at 8:13am. These gates will be unlocked at 2:45pm for dismissal except Wednesdays when gates will open at 1:20pm. Scholars will have 10 minutes to exit school grounds before the gates will be locked.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with these procedures. We are confident that your child鈥檚 safety is as important to us as it is to you.

Visitors - New process when coming on campus Visitors - New process when coming on campus

Visitors

When coming to volunteer at Turner or if you need to be on campus during the school day, you will need to sign in using the new digital format. This will require you to have a valid state issued identification or driver's license. The program will then take your picture and print out your visitor pass. The pass must be worn when on campus. When leaving campus, you will use the same device to sign out. It is a quick process that allows us to see who is on campus at all times which is especially helpful in emergency situations. We are excited to have families support our scholars. Be sure to check with your child(ren)'s teacher to see if there is a good time for you to help support the classroom.

Attendance Attendance

Daily attendance is important for our scholars. When they miss lessons, they start to fall behind and feel frustrated. To prevent scholars from struggling, we ask that scholars attend school daily unless they are ill (fever, diarrhea, vomiting). If your student is ill, please call the attendance line at 925-779-7632 and leave a message including scholars first and last name, grade, and reason they are missing school.

It is best if doctor and dental appointments are made after school hours or on school holidays. We know that this is not always easy, however, we want our scholars to receive the best tools and lessons to reach their academic goals and to do this, they must be at school.

Tardiness and leaving school early also has a major impact on our scholars. No one likes to walk into a classroom once lessons have started. You feel lost, nervous, and often that everyone is looking at you. To prevent any scholar for having these difficulties, we ask that you aim for student drop off at 8:00. This will prevent tardiness, allow your scholar to chat with peers at Walk-n-talk, and remove any anxiety that could occur from arriving tardy. If you do arrive more than 15 minutes tardy (8:30 or later), you need to accompany your scholar to the office to sign them in.

We understand that scholars may need to miss school for medical reasons/surgery. We ask you contact Ms. Ada in the office 10 days in advance of the needed time off so we can create an Independent Study for your scholar. This will help keep the scholar on track academically and elevate the phone calls stating that your child was absent from school. If you have questions about when you can request an Independent Study, please call the office at 925-779-7430 and speak with Ms. Ada.

After School Program

Turner will continue to have the After School Program (ASP). This program runs from the release time at school to 5:45 daily. The ASP program is available to all students TK-5th grade. Please complete the ASP packet for each scholar you would like to have enrolled in the program. The coordinator, Ms. Karen, will contact you regarding start dates for your scholar once the application has been processed. You can use the link below to apply or stop by the Turner office for an application. https://bacr.my.site.com/afterschool/s/login/
