Welcome Back to School โ€“ Must-Read Updates for a Strong Start!

Dear Talley Street Community,

I hope you're soaking up the final days of summer! We are thrilled to welcome you back for an exciting new school year, which begins on Thursday, July 31. Our halls are ready to come alive again with the energy and joy of our students, and we can't wait to see their smiling faces.

Behind the scenes, our incredible teachers have been working hard preparing classrooms for a year filled with learning, growth, and discovery. A huge thank-you goes to our dedicated custodial teamโ€”the school looks fantastic thanks to their tireless efforts over the summer!

To help ensure a smooth start to the year, please carefully review the necessary updates below:

๐Ÿ“‹ Class Rosters
Class assignments will be available in Infinite Campus starting Monday, July 29, at 4:00 p.m.

๐Ÿš— Dismissal Plan
All families must enter their child's dismissal information in PickUp Patrol using the unique link provided. If you need assistance, please contact jsanangelo@csdecatur.net.

๐ŸšŒ Bus Registration
All students planning to ride the bus must complete the annual registration. Please be sure this is submitted before the first day of school. Families must register for the bus EACH YEAR!

๐ŸŽ Free & Reduced Lunch
The application is now available through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Families must reapply EACH YEAR! Assistance will be available during our Meet & Greet on July 30 from 1:00โ€“3:00 p.m.

๐Ÿ“˜ Student Code of Conduct
The 2025โ€“2026 Student Code of Conduct is now available. Families must review this document with their child before the school year begins.

๐Ÿ“ Grading Information
We encourage families to review the newly released CSD Grading Handbook and Quick Facts Sheet for Grades 3โ€“5. If you have any questions, please reach outโ€”we're here to help.

๐Ÿ” Annual Data Update (ADU)
Completing the Annual Data Update is essential at the start of each school year. The update ensures we have:

  • Up-to-date contact information

  • Your student's health information

  • Required district sign-offs (including opt-out preferences, due within 10 days of school starting)

Help make Talley Street the first school to hit 100% completion! Click here for a larger version of the graphic with instructions, or click here if you need help logging in.

Please review the K-12 District Handbook and the Code of Conduct and Restorative Practices Handbook before completing the update. Help drive YOUR school to be the first to reach 100% submission! Click here for a larger copy of the graphic. Further, below are directions on how to access and complete the ADU. Go here if you need help logging in.

๐Ÿ“– Reading & Dyslexia Screening
Please review the information regarding Georgia House Bill 307 and our required reading and dyslexia screening process. Staying informed helps us support every learner.

We are so excited to kick off a fantastic school year with you. Thank you for being such an essential part of the Talley Street community!

Warm regards,
Billy

STAR Testing

As our previous parent letter communicated, STAR testing will be administered from August 4th to August 15th.

In compliance with House Bill 307, the Georgia Early Literacy Dyslexia Act, all third-grade students will complete the Early Literacy, Encoding, and Rapid Automatized Naming (RAN) assessments. Additionally, all students in grades 3-5 will take both reading and mathematics assessments.

These diagnostic screenings will be administered three times during the academic year: Fall (August), Winter (December), and Spring (May). As a diagnostic tool, the STAR assessment adapts to your child's knowledge and progress.

Please refer to the school's Fall testing schedule below:

  • August 5th-3rd- Early Literacy
  • August 5th-4th-5th STAR Reading
  • August 6th-3rd-5th STAR MATH
  • August 7th-3rd-STAR Reading
  • August 8th-3rd STAR CBM (Encoding and RAN)
  • August 7th-15th, makeups for all assessments

If you have any questions, please contact the testing coordinator, Lateefah Mosley at lmosley@csdecatur.net

Other Front Office Announcements

Arrival Procedures

  • Students may enter the building as early as 7:20 AM.
  • Breakfast is served 7:20- 7:40 AM.
  • Students need to arrive in their classroom with their homeroom teacher (NOT walking in the door) by 7:45 AM.
  • Attendance will be taken by the classroom teacher at 7:45 AM.

PickUp Patrol: Dismissal and Absences

Our school uses PickUp Patrol to help us keep track of dismissal information. Please use PickUp Patrol to report ALL changes to your child's dismissal plans. PickUp Patrol saves us a lot of time in the front office and reduces classroom interruptions. Most importantly, it helps us ensure all our students are safely dismissed to their correct after-school destinations. Notes, emails, or phone calls are not accepted for changes, except in emergencies.

  • RETURNING PARENTS: Please enter and confirm your child's default plan here: https://app.pickuppatrol.net/parents by 7/30/25. We must know your student's regular daily dismissal plans before the first day of school.
  • NEW PARENTS: You were sent a registration email with a link to set up your account. Please register and enter your child's Default Dismissal Plans (what your child usually does after school) by 7/30/25.
    • The PUP web app is free, and you can use it from your smartphone or computer.
    • Instructions for how to add the app to your phone are included in the registration email.

  • Dismissal Changes: We use PickUp Patrol to communicate dismissal information to teachers. If you need to change how your child should be dismissed, you should submit that information via PickUp Patrol, and our staff will be notified of the changes. Changes can be entered via PickUp Patrol from a phone or computer at any time up until 1:00 PM M-Th and noon on Fridays on the day of the change. After the cut-off times, changes will not be accepted except in the case of an emergency. The end of the school day is a busy time. Please make every effort to avoid last-minute changes after 1 PM! To ensure all students' safety, please plan accordingly and limit these exceptions to emergencies only.
  • Attendance Reporting: If your child will be absent from school, report the absence using PickUp Patrol before 8:00 a.m. on the day of the absence. You can also email jsanangelo@csdecatur.net and copy the classroom teacher for maximum communication. Email or turn in any absence or tardy excuses to jsanangelo@csdecatur.net or the front desk. Thank you for using PickUp Patrol to prioritize safety and ensure our dismissal process is efficient for all our students.

If you have any questions, please check the PUP Parent Guide. If you still need help, contact jsanangelo@csdecatur.net or PickUp Patrol at support@pickuppatrol.net.

School Supplies

The school supply list for all grades is linked here. Families are strongly encouraged to save time and money by ordering a supply kit through EPI School Supplies (link) as arranged by our wonderful PTO. The supply lists are simply suggestions for parents. The school will ensure that all students have the supplies that they need.
