Principal's Message

Spring has sprung! As we move through the final 2 months of school, many calendars seem to be filling up with a wide variety of events. All kinds of school events, from Track and Field events to Farewells and field trips, there is a lot happening as we close out the school year. While all of it is great, it does add to the busy schedule of things going on at the school. Our primary focus is to close out our curriculums on a high note. We remind students to continue to work hard as we prepare for the end of the school year. Summer break will be here before we know it! 😄😎🌞

We recently hosted a former Forestburg student at our school as a practicum student. Kaylee Nykolaishyn joined our gr. 5/6 class for 4 weeks as she was able to apply her learning in a practical way. It is always great to welcome back former students for these types of experiences. We thank Kaylee for her help and assistance and wish her well in the remainder of her program.

Our badminton teams, both jr. and sr. high, each travelled to a few tournaments. Congratulations to all those who were able to advance in the playdowns. That season has now wrapped up and we are into track and field and tennis. We have been in discussions with our swimming pool staff and are planning out our swimming for the coming weeks. Gr. 1-6 students will have lessons and a few other classes will have the opportunity to go for some ‘fun swims’ and some introductory learning in the water. Lessons will be starting during the week of May 26. A permission form will be coming out soon. Thanks to the Recreation Grant, there will be no charge for our students.

Our 50th annual Rummage and Bake Sale took place on Apr. 11. Thank you to all our volunteers who came to help with this event. It is a huge undertaking and one that many students and community members look forward to each year. Our gr. 9 students hosted a Family Movie Night on Apr. 25. The movie was the Garfield Movie. They had a decent turnout and were able to raise funds towards their year-end field trip. Thank you to those who came to support them. Congratulations to all of our Gr. 12 students, who will celebrate their Gr. 12 Prom on May 9. This will certainly be a big day for these students!

Our school recently had 3 additional Viewboards installed, bringing our total up to 5 in our building. These boards are replacing the old smartboards and projectors. They are much brighter and easier for students to see. They do require a fundamental shift on the part of teachers, but also allow much more capabilities in the classroom. Over time, we expect that all of our classrooms will be equipped with these boards. In preparation for next year, we held our Kindergarten registration on Tues., May 6. This is just one piece to putting together the puzzle for next year. Stay tuned for more preparations in the coming weeks.

Our Gr. 1-6 students and staff will be traveling to Viking on May 22 to take part in a Powwow. This will be a unique experience for most of our students. Several schools and communities will be present and a large crowd is expected.

I hope everyone has a wonderful month of May. I’m hopeful for a little rain and all the freshness that this time of year brings.

High School Prom

Congratulations to the Class of 2025 who will be celebrating Prom on Friday May 9, 2025. The Grand March begins at 8:00pm at the Forestburg Community Centre and is open to the public. We invite you to come and celebrate their accomplishments.

Battle of the Bands

The Sr High Band travelled to Hay Lakes to participate in the Celebration of Bands. Six schools from BRSD participated, each representing their school’s Band Program. Students from Forestburg School were paid the highest of compliments for both their performance and behaviour. Some favorite quotes from the day include: That drummer’s crazy good! Your students have a great sound! You guys cooked! Thank you to Pam Fuller who drove our equipment and took pictures for us.

Family Movie Night

The Grade 9 class held a successful family movie night fundraiser on April 25th. The funds raised will go toward the class outdoor education overnight fieldtrip to Elk Island National Park. The movie shown was " The Garfield Movie," which parents and students enjoyed, along with the snacks that the class prepared and sold. Thank-you to everyone who came out to support this fundraiser. Also, a big thank-you to the Ingrid and Matthew Badry family for donating the huge "treat basket" which was raffled off at the movie. Another big thank-you goes out to Renee Stribbell for donating the candy for the candy bags!

Maker Space

The Grade 7/8's explored using our new Makey Makey class set, generously purchased by Hot Lunch, in their Maker Space classes. The Makey Makey: An Invention Kit for Everyone is an invention kit designed to connect everyday objects to computer keys. Using a circuit board, alligator clips, and a USB cable, the kit uses closed loop electrical signals to send the computer either a keyboard stroke or mouse click signal. The students enjoyed controling various games from Pac Man, Super Mario and Mindcraft to pianos, pinball and Etch-A-Sketch with special conductive pencil led and playdough controllers! One group even used bananas to control a game!

Grade 9 Drama

Mrs. Pfeffer's Grade 9 drama class is currently working hard to memorize lines for their play, "Shoot the Breeze." This play is a two act play set in a seniors' retirement home where a young man works on a school project, interviewing an elderly gentlemen. Stayed tuned for a performance date and time! You won't want to miss it!

Grade 7/8 News...

The Grade 7/8 class tried making the traditional Ukrainian Pysanky Easter eggs before the Easter break. Students used hot wax and then colored eggs in layers to create unique designs. The students learned that the art of Pysanky is very intricate and precise, and they discovered that to create traditional designs, they would need hours to complete one egg! Thank-you to Mrs. Walker who came to give us lessons.
