Dear Coyote Families,

It was another wonderful week at Canyon View Elementary! Two highlights of the week include Thursday's VAPA Day and Friday's PTO Ice Cream Social! During this week's VAPA lessons, students explored rhythm, beat, and movement through a variety of engaging, hands-on activities. From creating instruments and learning new dance styles to practicing percussion and reading basic music notation, students across all grade levels had fun developing their musical skills and creativity! Thank you for the PTO for hosting Friday's Ice Cream Social and Game Night. Students and families enjoyed delicious ice cream scooped by their teachers, a costume exchange, and board games in the MPR.

We have many fantastic things to look forward to during the week ahead! On Tuesday, our Westview ambassadors are joining us for a playground play-date! On Wednesday evening, PTO is hosting a Dine-Out at Chuck-E-Cheese. On Thursday, our school will participate in the Great California Shake-Out Earthquake Drill. This is a great opportunity to learn about how to stay safe in an earthquake. Also, we will have Cool Coyote Lunch activities for students to enjoy throughout the week during their recess times hosted by our new Student Services Assistant (SSA), Mrs. K! This includes activities like board games, coloring, and more.

Let's Make it a GREAT week!

Warmly,

Erica Edmonston

Principal, Canyon View Elementary School

Interested in Visiting or Volunteering at Canyon View?

We love our volunteers! To get started, complete the Level 1 Volunteer Application for Canyon View Elementary at bit.ly/CVESVolunteer or click here (includes TB clearance and Megan’s Law check).

Some roles—like coaching, robotics, or working with students unsupervised—require Level 2 clearance. To obtain or renew Level 2 status, complete the Level 1 steps first, then request a Level 2 form from our office and complete fingerprinting at the PUSD District Office.

If you are visiting campus for a short time—such as attending an assembly, performance, class party or meeting—you do not need to register as a volunteer; simply check in at the front office as a visitor.

Learn more at the District’s Volunteer Information page: powayusd.com/volunteer-information

Pepe and the Parade, written by Tracey Kyle, illustrated by Mirelle Ortega

Pepe is so excited to attend his first Hispanic Day parade. With new food to taste, music to dance to, and a parade to watch, Pepe couldn't be more thrilled to celebrate and share his Hispanic heritage. Many of Pepe's friends also attend the festival, celebrating their own Hispanic ties. Mexican, Dominican, Panamanian, Colombian, Honduran, Nicaraguan, Chilean, Puerto Rican, Salvadoran, Guatemalan, and Cuban cultures are all represented in the parade. A day filled with joy and pride, Pepe and the Parade is a jubilant celebration of culture and identity.
