Roosevelt Report
March 1, 2026
Principal Points
Dear Roosevelt Families,
March is here—and with it comes one of our favorite times of the year: March Is Reading Month! There is something truly special about this month in schools. The excitement, the creativity, and the joy around books is contagious—and our students are already off to an amazing start.
We kicked off March Is Reading Month with our “Read Like an Olympian” assembly on Friday, and it was a blast! Students learned that just like Olympians train with purpose and dedication, strong readers build their skills through practice, stamina, and goal-setting. The energy in the room was incredible, and our Tigers were ready to take on the challenge!
Throughout the month, students have been encouraged to set a personal reading goal—and we love how flexible and student-centered these goals are. Goals may include:
-
Reading a certain number of books
-
Reading every day
-
Reading for a set amount of time each day
-
Exploring new genres or favorite authors
The goal is simple and powerful: READ, READ, READ!
Reading is one of the most important skills students develop in elementary school. It strengthens vocabulary, builds background knowledge, sparks imagination, and supports learning across all subject areas. Just as importantly, reading helps children develop confidence and a lifelong love of learning.
March Is Reading Month will be filled with fun activities, special moments, celebrations, and lots of reading joy. We can’t wait to share in this exciting month with our students and families.
Thank you for continuing to support reading at home—whether it’s a bedtime story, a trip to the library, or simply talking about books your child enjoys. Together, we are building strong readers and confident learners.
Happy Reading!
Mrs. Samouelian

Also, a special Thank you to the Roosevelt PTA for creating an amazing center piece that represented the hands of all of our Tigers. Every Tiger Belongs at Roosevelt!

MARCH CHARACTER TRAIT
Building Intergity One Day at a Time
At Roosevelt, we believe integrity is one of the most important character traits we can help children develop. Integrity means doing the right thing—even when no one is watching. It’s about honesty, responsibility, and making choices that reflect our values.
What does integrity look like at school?
You’ll see integrity when students:
-
Tell the truth, even when it’s hard
-
Take responsibility for their actions and choices
-
Do their own work and give their best effort
-
Follow expectations when an adult isn’t nearby
-
Treat others with fairness, kindness, and respect
-
Admit mistakes and work to make things right
We teach integrity through daily moments—classroom conversations, Morning Meetings, problem-solving situations, and reflections. Teachers model integrity by being consistent, fair, and transparent, and students are encouraged to reflect on their choices and learn from them.
Just as importantly, we recognize integrity. When students demonstrate honesty, responsibility, or accountability, we celebrate those moments—because character matters just as much as academics.
How families can help at home
-
Talk with your child about making good choices, even in small moments
-
Praise honesty and effort, not just outcomes
-
Encourage your child to reflect: “Was that the right choice? What could I do next time?”
