Dear Parents / Caregivers
It has been another busy few weeks at Jurien Bay DHS, with our Athletics Carnivals a highlight of the term. A big thank you to our staff, students and families for their support across the two days. After plenty of watching the weather forecast, we were very fortunate that the wet weather held off and we enjoyed two wonderful days of athletics. It was fantastic to see so many students participating, supporting one another and giving their best across the different events.
Thank you also to our P&C for running the meat raffle during the carnival. Our P&C continues to look for ways to raise funds and support our students and school, and we greatly appreciate the time and effort of the volunteers who make this possible.
Following our school carnival, our attention now turns to the Interschool Athletics Carnival, which will be held in Carnamah on Friday, 11 September. We wish all students selected to represent Jurien Bay DHS the very best of luck. Representing your school is something to be proud of, and we know our competitors will demonstrate Respect, Responsibility and Commitment throughout the day.
For our Year 12 students, the end of their schooling is quickly approaching. We wish them all the very best as they prepare for their upcoming exams and the final weeks of Year 12. In Week 1 of next term, we will formally farewell our Year 12 students at their Graduation Assembly and celebrate the completion of their 14 years of schooling. This is an important milestone for our students and their families, and we look forward to recognising their achievements and wishing them well for the next chapter.
Although there is still plenty happening in 2026, we are already well underway with our planning for 2027. Accurate enrolment numbers are important in helping us plan classes, staffing and resources for the coming year. If you already know that your child or children will not be attending Jurien Bay DHS in 2027, please let our front office know as soon as possible. We appreciate families keeping us informed so that we can plan effectively for the year ahead.
Kindergarten enrolments for 2027 are also open. Children who turn four years of age by 30 June 2027 are eligible to enrol in Kindergarten next year. If you have a child who will be starting Kindy, please contact the front office to collect an enrolment package. Knowing our expected Kindy numbers early helps us make the necessary staffing and class arrangements and ensures we are well prepared to welcome our newest students next year.
A reminder also about our school uniform expectations. Wearing the school uniform helps promote a sense of belonging and pride in our school. Students are encouraged to wear shorts purchased through the Uniform Shop; however, if alternative shorts are worn, they should be plain dark blue or black and without logos. Student Services has some spare uniform items available to support students when required.
There will be changes to our Uniform Policy from the beginning of Term 4. Caps will no longer be considered appropriate sun-protective headwear for students at school. All students will be required to wear a bucket-style or broad-brimmed hat when a hat is required. These hats provide greater protection for the face, ears and neck and support our commitment to keeping students safe in the sun.
The Uniform Shop currently has some suitable hats available and is looking at ordering additional stock. Please note that students do not have to wear a school-branded hat. Any bucket-style or broad-brimmed hat is acceptable, provided it does not display offensive language or images, or promote alcohol, drugs or other inappropriate products. We encourage families to organise a suitable hat ready for the beginning of Term 4.
As we head towards the final weeks of Term 3, thank you to our families for your continued support of our students, staff and school. There is still plenty to look forward to before the holidays, and I wish our students every success as they finish the term strongly.
If you have any queries regarding your child’s education, please do not hesitate to contact their class teacher to arrange a suitable time to meet.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL 2026
What a fantastic two days of athletics!
It was wonderful to see students encouraging one another, giving their best effort and proudly representing their factions throughout both days. Whether they were chasing a personal best, trying an event for the first time, cheering from the sidelines or helping their teammates, there was plenty of participation and positive sportsmanship on display.
A special thank you also goes to our staff, volunteers and community members who assisted with setting up, officiating events and helping everything run smoothly. Events of this size certainly wouldn't be possible without your support!

Bushfire Plan 2025/26
Jurien Bay District High School has been placed on the Department of Education’s Bushfire Zone Register as it is located in a designated bushfire risk area.
If a Fire Behaviour Index of 75 (Extreme Fire Danager) or greater forecast has been declared for the Shire of Dandaragan, a school MAY be required to invoke a pre-emptive (planned) closure. An Extreme Fire Danger poses a high risk to the school if a fire starts and is likely to spread quickly and intensely.
Parents will receive a text message to inform them of a possible pre-emptive closure of the school.
The final decision to pre-emptively close the school will be confirmed with the Principal no later than 4.30pm on the day before the pre-emptive closure. If the forecast changes after the 4.30pm deadline, the school remains closed to limit confusion within the school community.
Parents will receive a text message to either confirm or reverse a pre-emptive closure of the school.
Typically, schools will only be required to close for a day at a time. However, this will depend on changing weather conditions. Parents will receive a text message to advise if the school will reopen the day after the pre-emptive closure, or whether it will remain closed.
Parents are encouraged to monitor official bushfire information sources for current information about fire danger ratings:

Do Not Read Unless You Want To Cry ....
With so much in the public domain about the toxicity of the manosphere, the Tate brothers and the negative representation of young men on our screens, it is heartwarming to hear a feel-good story of two beautiful boys, who will become fabulous young men.
Even though I won’t use the real names of the boys, or the teacher, I don’t think it will take too long to figure out the names of those involved.
It was the last week of Term Three and the last Homework Club session for the term and two young boys really wanted to complete their assessment and submit by the due date.
The boys noticed one of the teachers was visibly upset - it had been a very difficult last period. The boys were caring and polite and showed great empathy.
This impressed the teacher….but not nearly as much as what happened the next day.
Before school the two boys went to the teacher’s classroom and asked the teacher how they were feeling as they could tell that the teacher was upset the day before.
As they asked, one of the boys took what he was hiding behind his back and offered the teacher a beautiful bunch of yellow flowers.
Of course, the teacher cried, especially when one of the boys said, ‘We saw you were unhappy yesterday, and we wanted to see you happy, so we pooled our pocket money and bought you these flowers.’
Of course, the teacher was overwhelmed and responded with, ‘And such a beautiful colour!’
To which one of the boys replied, ‘I remember from your class last year you taught us yellow symbolised happiness, so we bought you yellow flowers.’
To be overwhelmed on two levels - the kindness of these two young boys AND one of them had actually remembered something I had taught him!!
Win! Win!
Good Grief - It's Gatsby
April 10, 1925. YES 1925!!
That was when F. Scott Fitzgeraald’s The Great Gatsby was published and one hundred and one years later Fitzgerald's classic twentieth-century story of Jay Gatsby's quest for Daisy Buchanan and Gatsby's vision of the 1920's American Dream and the hedonistic lifestyle of the privileged young people in that world still resonates with audiences of all ages.
As a teacher you know a novel has touched students when long after they have studied it in class those students organise a booking to a production of the book, which is exactly what happened with the Year Twelve ATAR English students.
The students got together, and of their own volition booked tickets for the performance at Crown Theatre and travelled to Perth on a Saturday night to attend a ballet version of the novel.
How proud their parents must be of them. The students were beautifully dressed for the theatre and impeccably behaved.
What was so rewarding for me was to hear the students quietly question, ‘But where is the green light?’ and ‘Oh there are Gatsby’s shirts,’ and ‘Finally, Doctor T.J. Eckleburg’s eyes,’ all of which were symbols in the novel. Knowing the symbols and motifs from the novel gave the students a more intellectual understanding of the themes of the novel.
I would like to thank the students for organising this event. I had an absolutely wonderful evening and couldn’t stop smiling at how extraordinary these young people were.

PBS
The school's reward system was developed by the PBS team in 2021, to ensure a consistent approach across the school. There are 2 types of rewards given to students; faction points for following any of the school values at any time, and there are fast and frequent rewards that are given out regularly for following the fortnight behaviour focus. All children should be receiving a minimum of 1 reward per day. At the end of each fortnight, there are 6 random winners drawn from the tickets by the faction captains. There is 1 primary and 1 secondary reward for each faction. Faction points are then tallied and the faction with the most points, flies their faction flag outside of the canteen for the next fortnight.

Did you know ...
Thank you to parents and guardians for payments of voluntary contributions and charges received to date, your support is much appreciated.
Voluntary Contributions
In Western Australia, the cost of schooling a student in a public school has not increased since 2003.
As approved by the School Board, Jurien Bay DHS asks $60.00 for students in Kindergarten to Year 6 and $235.00 for students in Year 7 to 10, for the school year.
Senior School Courses
Charges apply to all Year 11 & 12 courses and payment is expected. Jurien Bay DHS makes every endeavour to keep course costs to a minimum to ensure maximum participation.
Why should I pay my voluntary contributions?
These are incorporated into the School Budget each year and funding received is distributed across each learning area budget accordingly. The more funding we receive through voluntary contributions the better the resources and facilities we can provide for your child.
Some examples include ingredients in home economics, printed and electronic materials, photocopying, art materials, timber, metals and consumable tools, consumable sporting equipment and textbooks.
Who should pay?
Given that all students benefit from the pool of collected fees, it is fair to expect that all parents should pay the balance of contributions and charges. Parents of students who choose the more expensive option subjects need to consider the costs during the subject selection process.
Payment Options
The school understands that families may not be in a position to pay the full amount all at once. Part payments, early payment discounts, deferred payments and credit card debits, are all available to support parents experiencing difficulties. Payment plans are available by contacting the Manager of Corporate Services, Kim White , on 9688 6100.
