WLWV CommunityUpdateDec. 11, 2018

We Want Your feedback for Future High School Learning Spaces!

The West Linn-Wilsonville School District is inviting public input during the consideration process of future high school learning spaces. Please take a moment to fill out the following High School Learning Space Possibilities Survey. The survey should take approximately 10 minutes.

Parents, community members, Long Range Planning Committee members, Board members, and staff attended community forums on Dec. 4 and Dec. 5 to contemplate possibilities for addressing projected high school enrollment growth in a future capital bond. Please take a moment to fill out the following survey if you were unable to attend either of those meetings. The survey will summarize the questions presented to the community and provide opportunity for your feedback. Learn about the process so far at the district website.

Winter is Coming — Time to Update Your FlashAlert Subscriptions Winter is Coming — Time to Update Your FlashAlert Subscriptions

open_in_new zoom_out_map
FlashAlert is the system that we use to notify you of school closures, delays, and other similar events. The system is routinely pruned of untouched accounts so even if you had previously subscribed, you should verify your subscriptions at https://www.flashalert.net/login.html. Please note that this is not a West Linn-Wilsonville system and we can provide only limited help.

Families should consider getting the free FlashAlert Messenger app from the Apple AppStore or Google PlayStore. Announcements will also be displayed on the local TV channels. During an event, we will also post an announcement on the district homepage.

Weather updates will also be posted on the district's Facebook and Twitter pages in the event of a school closure or delay.

Safety Spotlight — Threat Assessment Process

This week's Safety Spotlight focuses on our district's Threat Assessment Process. The Threat Assessment Process is utilized in occasions where a student may demonstrate an action that may be deemed as potentially harmful to the physical well-being of other students or staff. To learn about the district's Threat Assessment Process, please access the dedicated webpage on the district website.

In particular, note the Threat Assessment Flow Chart, which outlines procedure and protocol in the event of a Threat Assessment. To learn more about safety and security in the West Linn-Wilsonville School District, please view the Safety/Security Channel on the district website.

Wood Middle School Students Need the Community's Help!

We recently learned that our IWMS 2019 Winter Light Festival submission has been accepted, meaning our art students will have their own installation at the upcoming Festival! Students are currently in the planning and creation stages of their elaborate exhibit, which will include 160 student-made clay lanterns. Lanterns will include many personal student touches, and there will even be an audio component.

But to make this project a reality we need some help from our community. We are looking for parent volunteers to help us:

  • Build the exhibit structure
  • Audio, electrical, and wiring engineering for the ambitious project
  • Building Materials
  • A location to build our Art Installation

If you or a community member you know can help make our students’ dreams a reality, please contact Art Teacher Troy Mathews. We will also accept donations for supplies. Thank you!
