Happy Friday, CUSD!

Congratulations to the CHS Girls Lacrosse team on their CIF Open Division Championship! Islander Baseball is also blasting through the post season, taking on Mt. Carmel today in the second round of CIF playoffs. Go Nado!

Don’t miss next Thursday’s public art unveiling at 6th & D streets. The entire community is invited to see the incredible mosaic created by the talented student artists at CHS. See the event flyer below and check out our Newsroom to read about how this spectacular piece of art came to be.

Is your child registered to attend CUSD next year? We plan staffing and classes based on the number of registered students and not having a good idea of our enrollment numbers could result in last minute changes to classes and schedules after the start of school in August. We have added a ‘Force Registration’ on ParentVUE accounts which will allow users to log into their account 2 times with a message to register. On the third visit users will be unable to proceed into ParentVUE without registering their child(ren).

As another reminder, please be aware that a dangerous TikTok trend known as the “Chromebook Challenge” or “Chromebook Durability Test” has reached our district. It involves students filming themselves intentionally damaging electrical outlets or their Chromebooks by tampering with charging ports or batteries, which can lead to overheating, fire, or even explosions.

Please talk with your student about the serious risks of participating in this trend and encourage them to report any unsafe behavior involving Chromebooks.

Students are responsible for the care of their District-issued devices. Purposeful damage is not covered under the District’s Accidental Damage Protection and may result in replacement costs and disciplinary action under the California Education Code as outlined in the CUSD Discipline Action Guide.

Don’t forget, there is no school on Monday as we observe Memorial Day and honor service members who gave their lives in defense of our nation. We express special gratitude to all members of the military and their families who make CUSD such a special community.

Have a restful, safe, weekend - we will see you next Tuesday!

Karl J. Mueller

As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family!

  • Amy Amerling: She is always willing to support, time and whatever else is needed; she goes above and beyond for her team and students to be successful.
  • Faye Hunt, Beth Linde, Traci Orth, and Frankie Guillen: We are so grateful for Faye Hunt securing our special guest assembly speaker, author Mac Barnett! Our students were so excited to welcome this well-known children's book author and National Ambassador for Literacy! SSES Librarian Beth Linde helped ensure our students were prepped for the assembly and collaborated with them to make a beautiful welcome poster for Mr. Barnett. Traci Orth and Frankie Guillen facilitated assembly logistics, posters, and bookmark giveaways. Thank you, team, for making this special event a wonderful celebration of reading!
