Educator Evaluation Goals Due October 1
Please note that educator evaluation SMARTIE goals are due in Frontline on October 1. Goals should be focused on the instructional priority and the focus indicators that are linked below. If you have questions about your goals, please see your evaluator.
As a reminder, The purpose of the changes is to encourage evaluators to see educators in action to get a fuller sense of what is happening in classrooms. We hope that the shifts will allow for more frequent feedback, transparency, and to make it more "educator friendly".
The updated addendum to the contract that outlines all of the educator evaluation expectations can be found here.
Also, the new rubric for educators published by DESE this summer is here. The focus indicators for educators are listed below. Focus indicators are the focus areas that evaluators will be looking for in classroom observations and will be intentional about providing feedback about these specific indicators. Educators are evaluated on the whole rubric, but these are the main priority when doing observations. The description of the educator focus indicators are here (aligned to the admin focus indicators).
Last Chance! Site Visit Sign Up Link
As we discussed at the district professional development day, the Barr Foundation and other grants will be allocated for staff professional development through exceptional site visits to other schools that have high quality instruction for us to observe.
When planning trips, the district (through Barr and other grants) will fund your accommodations including food, travel to and from the location, as well as single occupancy hotel accommodations.
In return, we ask that you fully commit to the process which may include participating in pre and post trip meetings, student shadowing, and reflections, be present for the trip in order to get lots of great ideas from the schools that are allowing us to "peek under their hood", and be ready to implement new ideas and present to your colleagues about your learning from these experiences.
Here is a link to sign up for the site visits. If you signed up at the end of the year last year, you don't need to sign up again. However, you can fill out the form again if you wish.
Please sign up by October 1 so we can begin planning these awesome opportunities!
Last Chance! Staff Laptop Insurance
We will be offering a staff laptops repair deductible again this year for $50 per device for teacher/faculty MacBook Air and HP laptops. As in the past, this deductible will cover accidental damages as well as manufacturer defects. Staff who decline to contribute towards to deductible will be responsible for all costs associated with repairs to their devices. Staff who would like to opt in should write a check made out to GRSD by October 4 and give to Technology Director Chris Parker.
Para chromebook insurance will be free of charge.
Reminder: A message from the School Based Health Center
Flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death.
The best way to prevent flu is by getting a flu vaccine each year. Flu vaccine is available at the School Based Health Center. High dose vaccine for those 65 and older is also available upon request. Call or stop in today to get your immunization or for more information. School ext. 2134 or (413) 667-0142.
Although flu season lasts for months, experts say it’s best to get a flu vaccine by the end of
October.
Hey--what is the School Based Health Center, Anyway?
The School-Based Health Center (SBHC) is an onsite partnership with the Hilltown Community Health Centers, funded by the Department of Public Health. Our main office is located on the Gateway campus across from the auditorium and security at Gateway Regional School.
The SBHC has the capability to see students and staff from the district when they are not able to see their medical primary care provider in a timely manner, offering medical, dental, optometry, community resources and behavioral health services. We also travel to Chester Elementary on pre-planned days to ensure the entire district has access to services.
There is an opportunity for staff to enroll for medical services and students to enroll in one or all services. We offer urgent medical appointments, as well as routine medical appointments including but not limited to same day sick visits, injury visits with the capability to order x-rays off site, physicals for sports, 7D physicals, immunizations and more all without having to change their primary care provider. All notes are shared with primary care provider outside of the Hilltown Community Health Centers.
