Timber Talks
River Mill Elementary - April 17, 2026
Dear River Mill Families,
We had another great week at River Mill, filled with meaningful learning and strong connections with our students! As we look ahead, we have some events coming up next week that we’re looking forward to sharing with our community. As always, one of the most important ways to support your child’s success is through consistent attendance. Each day builds on the next, and being at school regularly helps students stay engaged, build confidence, and continue making progress in their learning. We truly appreciate your partnership and all you do to support your child each day!
🌟 Kindergarten Connection is on Thursday!
This is a special evening just for our newest, future Kindergarten students and their families! During this event, families will have the opportunity to meet our amazing teachers and staff, learn more about what Kindergarten will look like next year, our soft start, and get a feel for what makes our school such a special place. Students will also receive a fun goodie bag to take home!
We would love your help in spreading the word! If you know a family with a child who will be turning 5 by the end of August, please be sure to share this opportunity with them. Please see the flyer and video below for more details. We hope to see many of our future students there!
📝 State Testing Begins Soon!
Our 5th graders will begin state testing next week and our 3rd and 4th grade students will begin the following week. You can help your student do their best by making sure they:
Get to school on time
Get a full night’s sleep
Eat a healthy breakfast
Thank you for your continued support. Have a wonderful weekend!

REID Day for ALL Students!
Hi Families!
We have exciting news! Beginning in March, all of our students will be invited to attend REID Days, and we would love to see everyone there! We STRONGLY encourage all of our students to attend!
REID Days will provide students with fun, engaging opportunities to extend and enrich their learning through creative activities in reading, writing, math, and more. It is also a great time for students to collaborate with classmates and enjoy learning together!
We encourage families to plan for their student to attend REID Fridays for the remainder of the school year so they do not miss out on the fun and these special enrichment opportunities.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support!
See All of You on REID Day!

Be On Time, Stay All Day!
At River Mill, we want to ensure every student has the best opportunity to learn and grow each day. Recently, we’ve noticed an increase in tardies and early pick-ups, and we want to remind families how important it is for students to be at school on time and stay for the full day. Arriving late can cause students to miss important instruction, while leaving early means they may not get the full benefit of their learning time. Every minute in the classroom matters! We understand that occasional appointments and emergencies happen, but whenever possible, please schedule these outside of school hours. Thank you for your support in making sure your child gets the most out of their school day!
Attendance Matters!
We have already noticed a drop in student attendance, and we want to take a moment to stress how important it is for students to be at school—on time—every day. Consistent attendance builds strong learning habits, helps students keep up with important instruction, and supports both their academic and social growth. Thank you for partnering with us to make sure your child is present and ready to learn each day!
Research shows that when students miss just one day of school each month, it can add up to weeks of lost learning over the course of a year, which makes a significant impact. Regular attendance is one of the strongest predictors of student achievement, as it ensures children don’t miss key lessons, group activities, and opportunities to practice new skills with their peers.
We know mornings can be busy, and sometimes life throws curveballs, but your efforts to get your child to school on time each day make a big difference. Thank you for partnering with us to build strong routines and support your child’s success—we are here to help every step of the way!
PickUp Patrol -- How is your child getting home?
FOR ALL FAMILIES: TO BE COMPLETED BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
To ensure the safety of all our students, we ask that all families use the PickUp Patrol app to inform us of their child's daily transportation plans. Please make sure you have set up your child's plans for the first day of school and for the rest of the school year. This is an essential step for the first day of school. You can update these plans at any time! Registration emails were sent earlier this week.
If you need any help or support, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We're here and happy to assist!

We recognize the importance of forming a strong partnership with families and community members in order to positively impact the students in our school. We value input from parents, guardians, and community members in decision making. Please review the attached document to view our process for engaging families as partners in the educational process.

Cell Phones and Personal Electronic Devices
Cell phones and personal electronic devices need to be put in student’s backpack bell to bell. A personal electronic device—commonly referred to as a ‘cell phone’—is any device capable of making and receiving calls, sending text messages, or accessing the internet independently from the school’s network. This includes, but is not limited to, smartphones, flip phones, tablets, e-readers, smartwatches, smart glasses, and other web-capable devices, as well as the headphones or earbuds connected to them. In alignment with Executive Order 25-09 from the Oregon Governor’s Office (and ESD policy JFCEB), we will be following the guidance that electronic devices not be used during the school day. Students who disobey this rule or are in noncompliance with this rule, will have a conversation with the staff member to be reminded of the expectations on their first offense. For a second offense, the cell phone will be taken to the office until the end of the day. Parents will be notified and a meeting with school administration will be set up. If there is a third offense, the device will again be temporarily held, parents will be informed, and another meeting will be set up. Beyond a third instance of noncompliance, the school will determine appropriate consequences, always prioritizing keeping students in class and engaged in learning. The Elementary Schools will not be responsible for loss or damage to students’ cell phones or personal electronic devices brought to school.
