Viking Reminder: School will be closed on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, in remembrance of those who have died in military service. Our seniors celebrated after winning the classic Tug of War competition over the faculty team during the inaugural Spring Pep Rally, held Thursday on the Class of 2023's last day as high school students.

Our students from the Little Vikings Preschool celebrated their accomplishments with songs, awards and hugs at their graduation ceremony, held at the North Building on Tuesday with CTE Teacher/Preschool Director Mrs. Pesha, parents and student-instructors. (Interested in next year's preschool program? Registration will open on Tuesday, May 30!)

With all of the busy end-of-year events, it is clear there is still much experiential learning happening in our classrooms!

1. Mrs. Acebes' AP Spanish students participated in La Guerra de Salsa, where they split into groups and created an original salsa recipe. Students sampled eight entries and voted on their favorites in various categories. Congratulations to the Best Overall Salsa teams from each class: Nicolas Haywood, Larsen Prokop, Lorin Wright & Kaleb Yarbrough; and Stephanie Martinez, Jahira Quintanilla & Adriana Torres.
2. Mr. Banasiak's and Mrs. LaPlante's Forensics students took part in the annual Forensic Court Case in the H-F Library, where students acted as judges, jury members, defense and prosecutors, using forensic evidence of a pretend crime involving celebrities. Shout out to Mr. Bonges, Science teacher, for portraying a witness of the crime.
3. Students in Mrs. Stolzenbach's Chemistry classes designed and tested out hot air balloons this week to illustrate how the laws of gasses work.

Congratulations to our H-F Unified Track & Field team for bringing home the 2nd Place team trophy from the 2023 IHSA State Meet, held on Thursday at Eastern Illinois U.! Congratulations to: Drake Barton, Nick Calomino, Ryan Castady, Tyler Dean, Jade Harris, Jasmin Harris, Clinton Holmes, Nolan McNellis, Joe Neal, Beverly Nwachukwu, Brandon Sims, Xavier White, Auctaveon Wilson & Samuel Zinaich. The team was managed by senior Mallory Garcia, and coached by H-F's Mr. Garland, Mrs. Mucha, Mrs. Nieckula, Mrs. Olumstad, Mr. Raglione, Ms. Rice & Mrs. Veal.

Congratulations to senior Angela Alozie on reaching two personal records at the IHSA State Girls' Track & Field Tournament, as she finished in 4th Place in the 400M Dash and in 8th Place in the 200M Dash! Also finishing at state was sophomore Micah Jackson in 12th Place in the Discus Throw. Congratulations, Vikings!

Viking students were honored with certificates and with scholarships at the annual Honors Convocation, held Wednesday night in the Mall Auditorium. Highlights included academic awards by curricular departments, HFPA scholarship awards and scholarships announced by the HFEO, including its Future Teacher Scholarships, given this year to five future educators from the Class of 2023: Sam Bouyer, Moises Contreras, Avery Calhoon, Karizma Harris and Jenna Simpson (not pictured).
