Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we close out October and head into November, it’s hard to believe the first marking period is already coming to an end. The past few weeks have been filled with energy—from homecoming celebrations to classroom learning that’s well underway. As we move into this next stretch of the school year, we’ll turn our focus to parent-teacher conferences, upcoming assessments, and continued academic growth. We’re also excited to cheer on our student-athletes, with playoff games happening tonight and every day next week—be sure to come out and support the Hounds! This is a great time for students to reflect on their progress so far, set goals, and finish the marking period strong.

As always, thank you for your continued partnership. Go Hounds!

Dr. McCann

Clinical Corner Clinical Corner

The article, “10 Questions to Ask Your Kid Besides “How was School?” from Time Magazine on September 10, 2025 is really insightful to the reality of parenting. The author, Angela Haupt, paints the picture of the typical exchange after school of parents asking about their kid’s day and getting the famous “good”, “fine” or “ok" answer. Haupt suggests that when you first see your child, instead of asking them about their day, to just tell them you are happy to see them or ask about food, as they are most likely hungry. She mentions using these 10 thoughtful alternatives, (not every one every day), that have a much better chance of getting to know the inner workings of your child’s life and mind. She also suggests asking these later in the night as your child may be more talkative. Here is a sneak peek at some of the questions:

Tell me something that made you feel anxious or worried today. How did you handle it?

What was something kind you did or saw?

Is there anything you are nervous about for tomorrow?

When did you feel the most bored?

What made you smile today? Is there anything from your day you want some help with?

Each question explains how you can elaborate on it with more suggestions of what to say. For the complete article click on this link: https://time.com/7315031/what-to-ask-your-kid-school-day-parents/
