April 8-12
Dear MCS Families,
This email is for all MCS families (Pre K-12th) and explains our approach to the partial eclipse happening Monday, April 8. MCS will have a regular school day on April 8. We have not canceled school, and we will not have early dismissal. Our rationale for this approach is two-part:
- On what will be the first day back from Spring Break, we are sensitive to students missing part or all of the school day and the hardship this creates for working families.
- We acknowledge that an early release day may actually leave some students unsupervised (compared to a normal school day where MCS staff would monitor students for part or all of the eclipse).
The partial eclipse will occur between 1:45 p.m. and 4:20 p.m., with the maximum eclipse at approximately 3:05 p.m. If a parent/guardian desires to check their child out of school early on April 8, please report to school and follow the normal check-out procedures; this absence will be considered excused.
Marietta High School:
If your MHS student drives to/from school and you would like them to check out early, please email the MHS attendance clerk, Tamara Benning, at tbenning@marietta-city.org and provide your student driver’s name and check-out time.
If your child is a car or bus rider, you can expect staff to keep students in the building until their car/bus is ready – we will make every effort to minimize the amount of time students are outside.
Also, all after-school activities (athletics, ASP, etc.) will remain inside until 4:30 p.m.
