Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.
March 11, 2022
We had another full week at the Lab! Our staff and students did an excellent job with our safety drill on Thursday afternoon. The Read-a-Thon is rolling and Wednesday's Read Aloud with Mrs. Hart was a hit! There were 60 students on this Wednesday and we're hoping for even more next week for our culminating Read-Aloud! More on the Read-a-Thon below.
A highlight of our week was a joyful and engaging assembly with Jamal "Mr. Root" Collier. Mr. Root is a teaching artist and performer who used his music and elements of hip hop to integrate creative language and reinforce academic skills. We are grateful to the PTA for helping to arrange and fund this assembly! Many students were interested in knowing where they could access more of Mr. Root's music and I promised to share in the newsletter. More of Mr. Root's content for kids can be found here: https://beatboxdads.com/
Looking ahead to next week, we have a PTA General Meeting to look forward to on Thursday evening. This will be a virtual meeting you can access by logging into a Chrome browser using your child's BCPS login information, navigating to https://meet.google.com/ and entering the join code: llabpta. The meeting will begin at 6:30 on Thursday.
A calendar reminder that we have early dismissal next Friday, March 18th. We will dismiss at 1:05pm. And the following week, on March 21st, we have a spring picture opportunity. Order forms are coming home and an electronic version is attached.

Read-A-Thon Update
We have read just over 38,000 minutes so far and we have until March 16th to make it to our goal of 75,000! With the weather forecast, Saturday will be a perfect day to snuggle up with a warm blanket and a good book! Keep recording those minutes and sharing your Readathon Pages!
Mr. McComb will be one of our guest reader on the 16th, so be sure to join us at 7:00 using the Code llreadaloud.

Lunchroom Update
We want to approach this in a way that also respects children and families who still have their children wearing masks in the building and want to provide extra space when unmasking to eat lunch. Teachers are currently reaching out to families to give an opportunity to request this accommodation. If you would like this for your child, please let their homeroom teacher know.
Next week teachers will be determining table assignments and we'll be firming plans for shuffling desks to make room for the tables. We anticipate making the switch to tables on Monday, March 21st.

Kindergarten Round-Up!
Please save and share the dates below for Kindergarten Round-Up for the 2022-2023 school year! This is for children who will be 5-years-old by September 1, 2022.
The in-person round-up event will allow families to have their child meet a kindergarten teacher, confer on registration documents with office staff, meet additional support staff members, and (hopefully) take a brief tour of the school.
April 1st: 1:30 – 4:00
May 3rd: 12:30 – 4:00
Please have interested families complete this form: Kindergarten Enrollment Contact Information
Outside of these dates, registration can also be completed online or by appointment, but these dates are preferred if workable for families.
Update: We will be reaching out to families next week to begin scheduling. Please encourage others to provide their contact information using the link above.
