Westmoor Weekly 03/13/26
March 13, 2026
A Note from Principal Eck
Dear Westmoor Families,
It was a busy week with a little bit of everything—sunshine, warmer temperatures, clouds, snow, and heavy winds. Meanwhile, inside the building, students were actively engaged in creating, building, and thinking. It was a pleasure to welcome our kindergarten families today to celebrate their students’ artistic and musical talents together.
Next week, we kick things off with a fun Spirit Week. See the details below for each day. We will also have our Pack Meeting on Wednesday, where students will come together to celebrate our school community, recognize positive behaviors, and enjoy time as a pack.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our Westmoor community.
Quote of the Week
Each week students may submit a positive quote that captures and motivates their peers to persevere and feel good. We then showcase the quotes throughout the school building. Students may submit a quote, using this link.
IT'S BRAVE TO BE DIFFERENT
We are all in this together
SCHOOL NEWS
New Design Renderings for Westmoor Construction
At this week's Board of Education meeting, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jason Pearson shared new schematic design renderings of the work that is being done at Westmoor as part of the district's Build 28 initiative. Check out the renderings below!
In addition, this week the district went out to bid for the construction projects planned for Westmoor. The bid process is when the district formally invites qualified contractors to submit proposals. The district reviews the bids and selects the most competitive and responsible contractor. The contractor for Westmoor is expected to be approved at the April 28 Board of Education meeting. Construction is anticipated to begin this summer!

Supporting Healthy Physical Play
As children grow, physical play is an important part of their development. Activities such as running, climbing, wrestling, building, balancing, and other forms of active movement help children strengthen their muscles, improve coordination, develop body awareness, and practice social skills like cooperation and self-regulation.
While school recess must remain a safe and structured environment for all students, some types of rough-and-tumble or high-energy play are better suited for supervised settings outside of school. Providing opportunities for active physical play at home, at parks, in sports, or during other supervised activities helps children meet their developmental movement needs.
The following handout from our occupational and physical therapy staff includes ideas for safe, developmentally appropriate ways children can engage in physical play outside of school to support their strength, coordination, and overall well-being.
IAR/ISA Assessment Windows for Grades 3-5 in April
Students in grades 3-5 will take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) during the week of April 6-10, and the Illinois Science Assessment the week of April 13-17 for grade 5. IAR tests will begin in the morning, and will take 60-90 minutes.
As we approach our upcoming spring assessments, we want to ensure our students feel confident and ready to do their best. These tests will measure growth and grade level achievement in reading, writing, and math (and also science for grade 5). The best way to prepare students for any standardized test is to maintain consistent daily routines, and parents can support by:
ensuring students come to school each day on time
minimizing the scheduling of doctor’s appointments, dental visits, or family vacations during our testing window.
providing healthy foods, especially in the morning, and avoiding foods with high amounts of sugar or caffeine.
getting a good night's rest.
celebrating your child's effort and hard work! Consider planning a fun end-of-week celebration together!
Thank you, families, for your partnership and support in helping to make our assessments go smoothly.
Share a picture with us!
We’re excited to showcase the special moments and achievements of our students and their families. Whether it’s a holiday, cultural tradition, a child’s milestone like riding a bike without training wheels, a big win at a soccer game, welcoming a new pet, or anything else that makes you proud — we’d love to feature it! Here is the link to share a photo and brief description.
