Building Respect, Responsibility, and Safety Together

At Wredling, our goal is for all students to be respectful, make responsible choices, and stay safe. To achieve this, we recognize that we all need to do better—students, staff, and families alike. Each week, our lessons address behaviors we are seeing in school and provide opportunities to reflect, learn, and grow. These lessons are not about shaming, but about building understanding and strengthening our community. As James Baldwin reminds us, “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”

One area that we must face together is language. We are hearing and seeing an increase in students using inappropriate and harmful words with one another. Let us be very clear: racial slurs and hate speech have no place in our school culture. It is neither “cool” nor acceptable for students to use this language toward any student or staff member—regardless of whether they are friends or not. These words hurt, divide, and do not reflect the values we hold as a Wredling community. Our expectation is simple: this language has no place at Wredling.

We know it is much harder to harbor anger or hate toward someone once you truly get to know them. That’s why we want to invite ongoing conversations about the challenges our students face: How do we address situations where we feel someone has been wronged? How do we advocate for ourselves and for others? How do we set healthy boundaries? These are not easy questions, but they are important ones.

We ask for your partnership in reinforcing these expectations and encouraging your student to engage in these conversations at home and at school. Together, we can help our RedHawks practice kindness, respect, and responsibility so that every student feels safe, valued, and supported.

Proud to be a RedHawk,

Francesca Favero, Principal

Middle School Parent-Teacher Conferences Middle School Parent-Teacher Conferences

Conference sign-ups are now available through HAC (Home Access Center). Please see the information below for details on how to register. Conferences are a valuable opportunity to connect with teachers and receive a focused update on your student’s progress. While we recognize that schedules can be demanding, we kindly ask that families use these conference times for progress updates rather than requesting written summaries outside of the scheduled meetings. This helps us honor the time set aside for families while allowing teachers to remain fully present for their students during the school day.

If you are in need of a translator for conferences - please remember to indicate that when you sign up!

We are thrilled to have the opportunity to meet with our families!

Please Read This Information Carefully

Sign up for Parent-Teacher conferences opened this morning at 8:00 a.m. and will close October 6th at midnight. Conferences will be held with individual teachers. All conferences will be held in person or online through zoom/google meets. Each conference will be eight minutes long with a four minute transition period.

🚩Pick-A-Time Parent-Teacher Conference Scheduling Directions:
  1. Login to your HAC (HOME ACCESS CENTER) Account
  2. Click on the link for "Parent-Teacher Conference Scheduler"
  3. Be sure to ONLY choose Q1 (first quarter) teachers!

  • One important reminder: middle school conferences look a little different than what many of you may remember from elementary school. With each teacher working with (on average) 100–125 students, it’s simply not realistic (or necessary!) for every family to have a conference. Unlike elementary school, a conference is not an automatic obligation or expectation for all parents.
  • If you wish to visit the explore teachers, please sign-up to visit your child’s first quarter explore teachers only. The other teachers would not have information to share with you at this time.
  • You can sign-up for a conference with a teacher only one time. Our student services team (counselors, social workers, psychologists, speech and language pathologists, etc.) will be available for conferences, as well.
  • In some cases, a teacher may contact you in advance to set-up a conference time. That means we want to guarantee you a time to meet with your child’s teachers.
  • When you sign-up, try to sign-up for all conferences in a row. In other words, do not schedule gap times in the middle or you will be waiting around for a long time.
  • We would like you to have your RedHawk student with you during conferences. It is important that they hear what you hear. They are of the age when they are mature and responsible enough to be part of the conversation.

Fragrance-Free Reminder for the Health and Safety of All

At Wredling, the health and well-being of our students and staff are top priorities. We want to remind everyone that many individuals in our school community suffer from allergies and asthma. For these individuals, strong scents such as perfume, cologne, and scented body sprays can be serious triggers, potentially leading to asthma attacks or allergic reactions.

To help maintain a safe and healthy environment for all, we are asking students to refrain from wearing perfume or cologne at school. When students practice good hygiene—such as showering regularly and using deodorant—there is no need for added fragrances during the school day.

We encourage you to have a conversation with your RedHawk(s) about this policy and the importance of being considerate of others’ health needs. It may also be a good time to discuss the concept of "less is more" especially when it comes to fragrances.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we work together to keep Wredling a safe and welcoming place for everyone!

Securing Belongings

Please remind your students to use their lockers (both hall & PE) locked consistently. Keeping personal items secure is part of being responsible and helps maintain a safe, respectful school environment.

6th Grade Parents/Guardians

Be on the lookout for an email from your child’s team leader today. Information included will highlight the upcoming Outdoor Education field trips!

What is Outdoor Education?

Outdoor education is a day trip that sixth grade teams take to help foster friendships between peers and teachers. It focuses on leadership, problem solving, critical thinking, empathy, plus so much more! Outdoor education is a traditional trip that has taken place in the district for over 30 years! Most students mark this trip as one of the major highlights of their middle school experiences!

We need your TECH support

We have noticed an increase in students arriving at school without a fully charged Chromebook. This creates interruptions during class, missed instruction, and prevents students from being fully prepared to engage in their learning.

While the LRC does have a small number of battery packs available for checkout, these are intended only for occasional use. They should not become a regular solution or habit. A fully charged Chromebook each morning is an important part of being ready for school, no different than coming with notebooks, supplies, and homework.

To help reinforce this at home, you may want to ask your student:

  • Did you plug in your Chromebook before bed last night?

  • Do you have a routine to make sure your device is charged each day?

  • What happens in class if your Chromebook runs out of battery?

  • How many battery packs have you checked out so far this school year from the LRC?

We appreciate your partnership in helping our Redhawks build responsible habits that support their success in the classroom.

Next Saturday, October 4 students with missing assignments will be invited to attend Saturday school at Wredling from 8 - 10 a.m. The goal is to provide a structured environment with adult support to help students be accountable and get caught up. You will be receiving subsequent emails if your child is identified as needing to attend. Thank you for your continued support in prioritizing your child’s learning!

Teachers' Conference Luncheon

Our PTO Staff Appreciation Committee is hard at work planning events to spoil our RedHawk staff this year. The first opportunity is coming up quickly! Help Us Collect ONE MILLION Pop Tabs!

We’re on a mission to collect one million pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House Charities, and we can’t do it without YOU (and your grandparents, cousins, neighbors, and carpool crew)!

Those tiny aluminum tabs from soda cans, soup lids, or sparkling water may seem small—but when we collect them together, they add up to real support for families with seriously ill children.

Here’s how to pitch in:

  • Save your pop tabs at home—and ask your grandparents, cousins, friends, and neighbors to do the same!

  • Bring them to school all year long.

  • Every tab brings us closer to our 1,000,000-tab goal!

Let's pull together and make a difference!
