The MMES Buzz
News from Manchester Memorial Elementary School!
June 7, 2024
Principal's Note
Dear Memorial Families,
As I started to clean up the newsletter for this week, I noticed myself deleting many announcements and dates that have already been completed! The year is quickly winding down and summer vacation will be here soon! In fact, today is the last day for our K students. Happy Summer to our Kindergarteners and congratulations on a great year of learning and growing!
This is also the last newsletter of the year along with the last Friday of her career for our beloved Nurse Seaman. I want to personally thank Mrs. Seaman for her years of dedication to the children, families, and staff of MMES. In fact, next week she will be capping off an incredible 49 year nursing career highlighted by the past 26 years as MMES School Nurse! We have all been fortunate to be cared for by her over the years, and we wish her well in her retirement.
I hope you all have a great summer if I don't see you before then. Enjoy the sun and family time...see you next year!
Best,
John

Enrichment at Memorial This Week
We ended our 2023-2024 MMPTO Enrichment Programming with a Manchester Memorial favorite, Potato Hill Poetry. Andrew Green, the creator of Potato Hill Poetry, travels to schools across the country working to evoke a passion for poetry. He met with each classroom, grades 1-5, and they received individualized attention as he demonstrated the power of work, sound and rhythm. As we walked with him through the halls of MMES, students recognized him from prior years and expressed enthusiasm to work with "the poetry guy" again! This program was made possible due to a generous grant from the The Hooper Fund and we are so grateful for their support.
What's the Buzz with Ms. X
Oh MMES Family, What a year it has been! I am so proud to be a member of this community and this was another amazing year. To all our 5th Graders and their fantastic Families – thank you and good luck in Middle School! I can’t wait to see how you all grow and what you do in the coming years. To our returning students – I can’t wait to see you all in the fall and hear about your summers!
Some tips for a successful Summer:
- Create some semblance of a schedule (and visually if you can!) Keep routines (as much as possible; meal and bed times) even when on vacations.
- Make plans and have fun!
- Get outside! (Wear your helmet, never swim alone, make sure your adults know where you are)
- Build connections – within your family, with friends, or by making new friends!
Whatever you do this summer, I wish you all happiness, good health, and plenty of fun & relaxation. – Ms. X

I cannot believe that in 6 days this school year will end, and I will be walking out the door for the last time as your school nurse. I have been blessed to have a job that I love. So many memories, so many children, so many families that I will forever treasure.
When I reflect on my years here, we have been through so much. We have had our share of the good, the bad and the ugly, but through it all we stood tall and united for the children.
I have a bulletin board up now in my office “Our Strength is our Diversity,” we support each other, we are a team, we embrace challenges, we celebrate differences, we learn from each other, we respect each other, we share, and we listen. So true, this is what makes MMES so special.
I have had the honor of being sister, aunt, mother, and grandmother to so many. You are family, and you will forever hold a special place in my heart. I will never forget, and I hope that when you think of me, a smile will come upon your face. I wish you all health and happiness. As I say each year at kindergarten orientation, embrace these years because they go by very quickly.
Thank you for all your support and cooperation throughout the years.
Forever blessed and grateful,
Hugs,
Joanne
